Still Three Days To Christmas

You stumbled back to the house, your head buzzing. What a dick! Had it all really been about that feud? Ugh! You couldn't believe it. Then again, besides that almost kiss just now, what had really happened between you two. He had just been nice. A bit flirty maybe.

Gosh, you felt incredibly stupid and decided it would be best to avoid Harry for the rest of your stay.

As you got back to the house, you almost ran into a young man in black pants, a white shirt and black vest.

"Oh sorry. Um, hi.", you stuttered.

He smiled, then walked away, over to a white van, that had a sign for an event caterer on the side.

With a frown you walked into the house, to find even more people in black and white clothing moving around. Amid all stood Theresa, coordinating things.

"Hey T, what's going on here?", you asked, walking over to her.

"Oh hey, Y/N. Preparations for the annual pre-Christmas dinner.", she replied, her eyes never leaving the iPad in her hand.

"The what?"

Finally she looked at you, surprised.

"Didn't your boyfriend tell you?"

You shook your head.

She sighed. "The family throws this pre-Christmas dinner every year for their friends from around town. Super fancy and very popular. It's a privilege getting an invite. A bit like dinner with the Royal family."

"Maybe that's why I don't know about it, they just don't want me there."

The two of you chuckled at that.

Then a thought crossed your mind. "So, um, you're saying friends. Does that include the Styles'?"

Theresa tapped the screen of her iPad a few times, swiping up she scanned it, then nodded. "Yup, Anne's on here and... oh, the list isn't updated..."

You bit your lip. You knew what she was talking about and it still made your heart heavy. You could only imagine how the Styles' felt. Loosing someone was always hard.

"Right, well, that means just Anne?"

"I guess so. She might bring one of her friends, since she's allowed a plus one."

"Ah, okay, thanks, T."

She smiled at you. "Anytime."

Upstairs your boyfriend greeted you in his room.

"There you are. Sorry, I think I forgot to tell you about the dinner, didn't I?"

You nodded, but smiled. "It's fine. I just don't think I have anything fancy enough."

He grinned. "Don't worry, I took care of that."

He gestured towards the bed. On top of the covers lay a big red box.

You took a deep breath and walked over, preparing for the worst.

Your boyfriend's mother wanted you to make a grand entrance. It felt a bit like a coming out party. Your boyfriend would be waiting for you at the bottom of the stairs to guide you into the dining room, ahead of everyone else.
