Of all the days... of all the clubs...
Why here? Why now?
"Lexi? I know you can hear me. If you think ignoring me is going to get me to leave, you're wrong."
Despite herself, a small smile worked it's way to her lips.
He was always so stubborn. It's one of the things she admired about him.
"We need to talk."
Suddenly, she wished she had ordered some alcohol when Taehyung had offered free drinks. Maybe then she would've had some sort of courage to face the very thing she wasn't ready to.
"Um... my friend isn't feeling well. Maybe you could see her later?"
She winced, knowing Taehyung's attempt to help her would only inevitably lead to more trouble.
"Excuse me? I don't think I was talking to you. This is between me and my girlfriend. Stay out of it."
"Kai, don't.". She said without thinking, finally turning to face the only person she's ever loved.
"Oh," he smirked. "So now you talk to me. I really thought you were going to keep me waiting."
Quietly, she said, trying not to cry - because damn it, she missed him, so much it hurt. "What do you want, Kai? Just ... just tell me so we can end this as quickly and as painless as possible."
He didn't even bat an eye lash at her choice of words. He simply went on with the path he'd picked out the moment he set his eyes on her.
"I've been calling you, babe. What's wrong? Was it something I said? Or did?"
She couldn't believe her ears.
Just whom did he think he was talking to?
"Let's not do this. Not now, not ever hopefully. I broke up with you. We're done." she stated as quietly as she could.
"In a text. A freaking text, Lexi. What could I have done to deserve such a harsh and unfeeling punishment?"
She really wished she'd had a shot of tequila or something equal if not more demoralizing to drink. At least then, she'd have something to blame for the strange tales she was hearing.
"How can you even ask me that? Why are you even doing this? What are you hoping to achieve? I'm nobody, remember? Those were your words! I was so sure I was doing you a favor. So what exactly is it you want?"
She was breathless by the end of her statement.
Seconds later, regret settled in and she began to hate herself for falling into his trap.
Because this is why she sent a text instead of confronting him.
She knew he would try to bait her into snapping so he would have a reason to fight. Her response wasn't the only problem. She'd made the same mistake she always did when they were still together.
She gave him the option of choosing what was to be the outcome of the situation.
"Since you asked -" she wasn't breathing at this point, "I want my girlfriend back. This whole issue has been silly and childish. We both know how much you adore me. I bet you regretted your actions as soon as you sent that text. It's okay, babe. I forgive you."
He had the gall to smirk while she sat there, giving up on the fight to hold back her tears.
"The only regret I had was that I didn't sent it months ago. What gives you the right to think for a second that I want any of this? Any part of you? Why won't you leave me alone? Please, Kai. I'm begging you. Leave me alone. Haven't you done enough? I get it. I hurt your pride. I'm sorry. But I'm done being a worthless object to you. Please, let me go."
Taehyung was barely controlling his anger at this point. The poor girl was crying and the jerk simply stood smirking?
He really wanted to punch him in the face but the look she'd given him earlier held him back. He stood, watching as her ex boyfriend stepped closer until they were merely a breathe apart.
"You think a simply apology will fix this? Do you think it's that easy? Oh no, not even close. I did you a favor by asking you out. I tolerated you for months and this is the thanks I get? A crappy text and your trashy attitude this evening? Babe, I'm not giving up that easy. I will make your life a living hell. I will make you wish you'd never crossed paths with me."
I already do, she thought as he grabbed ahold of her wrist.
"Let's take this somewhere else." He muttered pulling her forward.
She'd barely taken a step when she was yanked back forcefully. It took a few seconds to figure out why and when she did, she'd never felt more thankful in her life.
Taehyung wasn't sure how he always ended up in situations like this.
Literally, all he wanted was to get wasted, cause some mischief and sleep in the next day.
But the universe was like noooo, why don't you have a show down with a troublesome looking jerk instead?
He was going to simply wait for one of his friends or brothers or at least a bouncer to appear in his line of sight but he couldn't stand to watch as the troublemaker try to leave with Thea who looked down right terrified.
"What the hell is your problem? Let go." the jerk glared.
"Only if you let go first." Taehyung simply said, tightening his grip on Lexi as much as he could without actually hurting her.
"Is this a new thing with bartenders? Not to do their jobs and meddle with the affairs others?" Kai hissed, looking extremely angry.
"It's not meddling if we're friends. She doesn't want to go with you. Why are you trying to take away her basic rights of freedom and choice?"
He did a quick search for a security personel or anyone that looked remotely capable of kicking out the annoyance before him.
When he realised there was no one in sight, he made a mental note to fire some douche bags that he paid a hefty amount of money to for the maintance of peace.
"Kai... stop. You're hurting me." Lexi spoke suddenly, trying in vain to pull her wrist away from her ex boyfriend's grip.
"It wouldn't hurt if your friend just did his stupid job instead meddling. Dude, let her go." Rhys hissed.
"Not a chance in hell. She doesn't want to go anywhere with you. Why do you insist on dragging her away?"
Taehyung had never liked confrontations.
In school, he had tons of friends and was voted to likely be the most influential adult - which turned out to be true, as his charming box grin had gotten him out of several sticky situations in the past.
He was never one for violence - always claiming that it was what made his elder brothers of use to him. It would be tremendously helpful they somehow dropped from the sky to aid him in this dilemma.
Quickly, he glanced around, looking for any sign of either of them, mentally promising to scold them for choosing the worst time ever to be late. As if summoned by some invisible force, a few seconds later, Jin walked in through the doors.
Using his free hand, Taehyung pushed Lexi's glass off the bar in the direction of where he'd been standing.
The sudden crash captured Jin's attention. His first thought was, 'Ah, Namjoon is already here.' but then he sighted his youngest brother by the bar, looking angry.
Noticing the girl by his side with tear stained cheeks, Jin silently swore.
Curse Taehyung and his stupid big heart.
Without thinking, he marched to them.
"Hello, love. I'm sorry I'm late - traffic was brutal." He smiled, wrapping an arm around the girl.
She whirled around, her gaze meeting his as a mix of pineapple and lavender scent invaded his senses.
Her eyes were what got him to pause. Even in the dim lighting, he could tell how brown there were.
Gently, he held her face and wiped her cheeks with his thumb. "You've been crying. Who do I have to kill?"
His voice was soft, just like his hands. For a brief second, the noise, the lights and her broken heart faded and all she knew was the guy staring at her with a frown on his face.
"Him." Came Taehyung's curt reply and the stranger's eyes left hers.
"Who the hell are you?" Kai snapped, not happy to have another pest in his affairs.
"I should be asking you that. What did you do to her?" Jin growled, feeling strangely upset and protective.
"I'm her boyfriend - not that it's any of your concern. Now if you'd take your hands off her, I'd consider letting you keep them."
Jin laughed, wondering the last time he got into a fight with a valid reason.
"Tough talk for someone who doesn't know when he's wrong. She's mine. If you have any bit of common sense in that arrogant little head of yours, you'd leave."
Kai scoffed, transferring his gaze to Alexa.
"Is he your type now? Don't kid yourself Lexi. You can't keep a guy like that. You can't even get one because I'm the best you got. Now quit acting like you've got a option and let's go."
Jin stepped in his line of sight. "Don't talk to her. You lost the right do that when you hurt her. If you've got anything to say, say it to me."
Kai was losing his patience. What did this girl think she was doing, hiding behind some guy? Did she really think he was easy to fool?
"I don't think you understand what's going on here. I don't know what lies she told you but she and I have personal issues. If you hand her over, I'll consider overlooking this whole thing. Even the fact you somehow got with my girl."
Jin has never in his entire life felt the instense urge to smash someone's face in with hammer.
Until tonight.
"You're pretty cocky. If only you were smart too. She's not going anywhere with you. She's not your girl. Now, I'll ask nicely one last time. Will you leave or do we have to throw you out?"
"Why would she want to be with a pompous idiot like you?"
Jin tilted his head to the side innocently. "Why wouldn't she? I'm worldwide handsome, polite, nice and I don't treat her like some property. And I'm extremely wealthy."
Kai stepped forward, attempting to look a little bit meanacing.
"Yeah, well.... I'm rich too."
Jin glanced at his watch, practically telling Kai what a waste of time it was to argue with him, without actually saying so.
"Maybe, but your wealth comes from freeloading off your parents. On your own, you would be nothing. No one. Because you are incapable of having the tiniest bit of common sense and therefore incompetent. You wouldn't last a day in the real world without your fancy lawyers and servants."
For a second, Jin felt he was being to harsh. On a normal day, he knew his soft heart wouldn't have thought of such words to hurt someone he didn't know. But for some reason, he wanted to protect the girl by his side.
And it felt so good to put this cocky brat in his place.
Kai was unhappy with the conversation he initiated.
How could this guy talk to him like that?
In front of her, no less.
Despite the odd chill that ran down his spine as the brown haired adult glared down at him, Kai refused to let the matter go.
"You can't talk to me like that. You know nothing about who I am or what I'm capable of."
Jin was tired.
Tired of hearing the annoying voice of the guy in front of him.
Tired of standing.
Tired of feeling her trembling grip the back of his jacket and not being able to give her the hug he knew she needed.
He needed to end it. And he was going to do just that.
"I might not know everything about you, but I do know a couple things. For one I know she isn't yours and doesn't want to be. I know your ego is in the way of you simply doing the right thing - which is to accept the fact that you lost her and walk away. And I know you lost her because you didn't treat her well. You didn't love her or care about her. You don't deserve her and she deserves a lot better than you."
