An Unlove story (Poem)

I looked up
And I saw your face
You looked away
Without a trace... of me.

With that one look
I was stuck in a trance
Begging life to give us a chance

But that will never happen
For my fate is sealed
That will never happen
Just as I feared

I can make these words rhyme
But they won't hurt any less
I can buy us more time
But the strength I don't possess

The saddest part is that "we" was all in my head.
A dream I made up as I laid in my bed

An unholy desire to hold you tight
An unholy desire that I must fight

My heart aches at the thought of you
But you don't even have a clue
That everything you do or don't do
Causes a monsoon... in my life.

I spent a lifetime staring at my phone
I spent a lifetime hoping you'd show
I spent so many nights crying alone
But I couldn't let it be shown
So, all I could say was:
"Will that be in a cup or a cone?"

Adding a smile to throw off suspicion
Taking the extra mile to complete my mission
To destroy my heart's ambition
To take the key off the ignition

Let it be known that I broke my own heart
Let it be known that I did my part
To end "this" before it begun
To end "this" with my own gun

Here lies my broken heart
Here lies my greatest art
Which is my sacrifice... for you.
My punishment, to be precise.
I was guided by a naive heart
And for that I paid the price

Don't worry, it won't last long
It'll only take a poem... or two.
At most, maybe I'll write a song
Signed-The one who was feeling kinda blue.
