The Interview
"What happened on the night of 1st of October 2015?" demanded the police officer. I couldn't talk about that night. It was too upsetting. My mouth opens, and I murmur "I can't remember." The police officer rapidly replied "Don't lie to me...You were there...You're one of the witnesses. Now tell me what happened?" I could tell that the police officer was stressed. His voice was lined with an aggressive tone. A tear rolled down my cheek. I really didn't want to talk about that day. I started to open my mouth and then through a stream of tears, began to explain my day.
It all started with a text from Alex to Kayleigh. It was 6:45 AM when the text was sent. I opened it straight away and read it in my head. 'Heya Princess, how are you? Can you meet me before college as I have a massive surprise for you?' My heart started to race in my chest. I immediately reply with 'hey prince, I'm good. of course, I can meet you. see you soon. I love you.' I started to think 'What was the surprise?' I started to get ready for college. I glanced down at my watch to check the time. the tiny hands showed me that it was 7:25. It was time for me to leave and head to college. My bag was perched on the chair, so I grabbed and stepped out into a nice gentle breeze.
The first person I see is Alex. I can tell it's him by the way he is sitting on the wall. He jumps off and starts to head towards me. my walk sped up. He grabbed me and gave me a massive hug. He told me to close my eyes and hold his hand. I do as he says. we walk to the school wall and he says open your eyes. I couldn't believe it. There was my favourite bike sat in front of me. he turns to me and says "Do you want to go for a ride? We will forget about college today and just ride away somewhere." I joyfully cried "Yes. I would love to go for a ride with you". We got on the bike and Alex roared the engine into life and slowly started to drive away from college.
We drove for hours until we found the perfect place to stop for the night. Alex pulled the bike into a nice secluded grove of trees and sets up a small fire. I grab the blankets from the bike and give one to Alex who puts on the floor. Alex walked off into the treeline to find some more wood for the fire. When he comes back, I notice that he is smiling. He comes over to me and gets down on one knee and pulls out a box with a ring in it. I couldn't believe it. he was going to propose to me. A tear rolls down my cheek when Alex says "Kayleigh, will you marry me?" I was in shock. I joyfully replied with "Yes, of course, I will marry you."
Later that night, we heard a screech, followed by an explosion of colours across the sky. Fireworks were screeching across like fireflies dancing through the night. This was the most amazing night of my life. Shortly after the fireworks finished we fell asleep. When I awoke the next morning, i find that Alex isn't beside me. I sit up and see him sat by a tree near the river. I wander over and ask him if he was ready to go. He looked up at me and replied, "I'm ready when you are." He got up and hugged me. I could feel his heart beating his chest and for a few minutes, forgot that the world existed.
We drove away from our little campsite and head towards the beach. Alex started to speed up. I could see the motorbike speedometer increasing to over 70 MPH. I screamed "Alex slow down, Alex slow down, Alex slow down!" He didn't listen. He asked me if I could remove his helmet and put it on me. I did what he asked then asked him again to slow down. He asked me 'Do you love me?' I reply "I will love you forever. Now, please slow down!" He then asked me to give him a hug, so I did and once again I asked him to slow down. Suddenly there was a loud thump. Kayleigh and Alex were launched off the bike and landed on the grass.
One of Alex's friend was driving his bus back to depot when he saw the bike and the two bodies on the grass. Danny stopped the bus and immediately dialled for help and ran over to see if they were okay. Danny's first reaction was to see if the person without the helmet was ok and saw that he was clutching a piece of paper in his hand. He reads it and then removed the ring from his finger, wraps it in the note and places in his pocket. The ambulance arrived and straight away they could see that Alex had died due to the impact. They saw Kayleigh lying on the ground, then lifted her onto the stretcher. She was rushed to the nearest hospital in critical condition.
Two days later, Danny went to visit Kayleigh in the Hospital. She asked where Alex was but Danny couldn't speak. he simply handed Kayleigh the note and whispered, "This will explain everything." The nurse comes in and speaks softly to Kayleigh telling her the truth about her boyfriend. She started to cry. The one person she loved the most was gone from her. The nurse told Kayleigh the other news. She was going to be giving birth to a baby boy.
