Shrieks echoed around as the remaining guests struggled their way  outside. Jackson, along with the others, shot Mr. Wilfred's men with skilled precision. When it almost seemed like the enemies were dispersing, more men came in and fought back.

"Find the woman or we'll lose the money!"

A voice said with urgency. Men searched around the place while trying to dodge the bullets raining down on them. I pushed myself up and knelt behind a post while Merrylia  ducked behind an overturned table.

"We should get to the exit faster. Backups are this way and we need to be out of here before things get any worse."

Merrylia's voice filled my ears through the device and I nodded. I was about to get to her when a man passed by. I saw how his eyes widened before he took a deep breath, preparing to shout. He wasn't able to release one word when a hole appeared on his chest and he collapsed.

"Move faster, Loward! Or we'll die here tonight!"

I immediately hastened my movements and caught up to her. We made our way to the exit as I shielded her with my body. My knees ached and my elbows were scratched but the pain I felt was over shadowed by the rush and adrenaline coursing through me. I was about to get up when three men suddenly appeared, blocking the exit.

"Here they a-"

The man barely finished his sentence when a bullet pierced to his neck and he fell backwards into his subordinates. Smoke rose up from the gun I was holding as I covered Merrylia from their view.

"Fuck you!"

Before they were able to point their gun at me, I lunged forward and pushed his arms upward then twisted it down, releasing the gun from his grip. Before the other man could react, I pushed the man I was holding to him until they were both pinned to the wall like a sandwich and placed my gun on the man's chest and pulled the trigger. The bullet pierced all the way to the man on the bottom, killing both of them in less than a minute. I glanced at the gun I was holding. High-powered indeed.

I was about to return to Merrylia when another man came up from the dark. My gun was half-way up when the man fell back with a bullet hole on his forehead. I turned to Merrylia and saw her standing with her gun on her hand, her eyes were blazing with hellfire.

"Let's get out of here."

I threw one last look inside. Jackson was shooting like he was on a shooting spree with rats as his target. The other men was doing the same thing. Not far behind, I saw the gigantic figure of Fred. He was shooting more vigorously than the others. His cold gun metal blue eyes were glowing with bloodlust. He may be stubborn and likes to disobey Merrylia sometimes, but when it comes to serious things, he worked extra hard. But this wasn't the overtime I was thinking we would have. I admit, killing wasn't one of the things I expected to do with a job as a secretary. I looked at Merrylia once again and nodded. We went out the door and I locked it behind me. We ran to the lobby, not minding the smell of gun powder in the air. We were almost outside the building when she motioned me to stop.

"Wait."

She reached down to her high-heels and started pulling at the strap. She was half-way through when the door we just came out of flew off its hinges and collided with the wall. Men came out and went after us.

"Damn this!"

I stretched my arms out and scooped her into my arms and darted out the door.

"Mr. Loward, what are you doing!?" She told me, her eyes wide with shock and rage.

"Sorry Ma'am, but we have to get out of here."

Some reporters were still outside and hiding in their vans as I ran to our car. Some of the guests were also there and calling the police. When we reached the car, I set her down and opened the door. She went inside and I followed, shutting the door right after.

"Jackson, Fred, leave immediately, the cops are coming, and take some of those slithering bastards with you. I want to have a little chat with these rats." Merrylia said through the device.

"Yes Ma'am." Two voices replied.

"Mr. Wilkins," Merrylia turned to the driver. "To the headquarters."

The engine started and soon we were already on the road to the main building. The car lapsed into silence.

"So..." I spoke. I wanted to ask her something since we were shot at inside. "Is this the reason why you were searching for a secretary with military backgrounds?"

She was silent but her eyes were drawn to me. A minute passed and she still haven't answered. I was about to drop the subject when she replied.

"Yes, Mr. Loward. This is also the reason why I gave you a week to think before you accept the job."

What she said was true. I saw that the were hiring and I thought it was absurd to give me a week before signing the contract when it was me who decided to apply after I saw that I  have all the requirements. Now I know.

30 minutes later, we arrived. Jackson and the other men parked right after us. The men was the first to come out before us. After securing that it was safe, Merrylia and I went out.

"Where are the men?" Merrylia asked Fred.

"On the car Ma'am."

"Bring them out and place them on the basement. I don't want their stink lingering on my office." The men were dragged out of the car, all blindfolded and bound. Fred and Jackson led them to the basement none too gently.

"Let's get inside."

We entered the building as the exhaustion caught up to me. I was so busy in keeping my body intact that I didn't notice how tired I was.

When we reached the office, I slumped down on the couch, not minding that my boss was there. My hands were shaking and my head was dizzy from all the gun powder I inhaled.

"I'm alive." I blurted out.

"Yes, you are." Merrylia said as she sat on her chair.

"By the way, Mr. Loward. You're quite a decent fighter."
