Iris POV (Point of View)
Why did she leave? With those strange people? I'm so scared, Iris thought.
She was only six, she wasn't supposed to be left in a carnival by her mom, all by herself. It wasn't fair, where was Mama? She couldn't help, but think over and over again.
And the tears wouldn't stop coming either. Sobs wracking her tiny delicate body.
And then he sat next to her. The teenager she had seen earlier. Pretty much everywhere lately.
He had been watching her and Mama as they were on the Ferris Wheel or whatever Mama had called it. When she had told Mama about it, she'd turned stony, it was like she wasn't there anymore, looking off into the distance. Thinking hard about something after the ride. She had told her to sit on this bench behind a tent and wait for her to come back.
She'd gone off into the crowd with a group of dark figures. They were all guys, she knew. All teenagers actually. In black pants and sweatshirts. They moved like angels. But something in Iris's mind scolded her at the comparison. They weren't angels. They were bad. She could feel it in her bones. And it scared her.
"Hey there, Iris. I just want you to know, I'm not here to hurt you. Are you okay?" The guy she remembered from before asked.
She was acting like a baby. Her mom would be back, she thought as she wiped her tears away with her sleeve. What was important was that this stranger not be here when she did come back, Mama wouldn't be happy about her talking to a stranger now would she?
Iris clung to that thought as she said, "Go away."
The guy smiled and said, "How am I suppose to leave a little girl like you alone?" He asked smoothly.
Iris frowned, she didn't want to be alone. But she didn't think he should be here with her.
She was confused.
Mama where are you!? she thought frantically, looking around her, avoiding the boys gaze.

Ryder POV
She was a six year old. They had left me to guard a six year old.
They honestly believed this six year old maybe psychic human was going to grow up to have the fate of being one the greatest vampires in the world? Were they serious?
She was in a dusty pink dress, golden blonde hair pulled back in a long braid down her back, and eyes such a dark blue they were almost black, and though he didn't doubt they could be scary, they were filled with innocence. How could a sweet little girl like her become a vampire. They actually believed the stupid witch who had prophesied it. Now they wanted to capture this girl. Iris, a voice in the depths of his mind whispered. Okay fine. They wanted to capture Iris and train her and turn her into a vampire as soon as she hit puberty. They expected this little girl to eventually lead them. He couldn't believe it himself and he was right next to the girl!
He stopped his mind chatter, deciding to at least be nice to the girl. She was about to lose her mother, after all. The rest of the team were off right now, killing her, torturing her to get her to tell them more about Iris and her powers.
"Hey Iris, I'm not here to hurt you. Okay?" He spoke to her kindly. The girl was so overwhelmed with her emotions it was giving Zach a headache even though he wasn't reaching out his mind to her.
