Caught in My Web

I am an actress
I pretend I am confident and brave
like I don't give a fuck
until someone questions how I behave

Then I morph like a caterpillar in its chrysalis only uglier
Into someone new
Someone likable and funny, or
someone just like you.

Walking on thin ice
crying as I slip
and tear through the web of lies
I spun for friendship

Trying to be interesting
means my thoughts are never mine
my drab little life
will never be worth your time

As hard as I try
I still don't quite fit in
just tolerated, I guess
for the intricate web I spin
