I fall in love in my dreams

Sadie and Carter were tracking Apophis’s whereabouts for a while now, which weren’t hard to track, since he kept attacking egyptian houses all over the world in evil, cruel ways. Sadie came up with a theory that the Lord of Chaos was after something. Something that could help us destroy him. Each egyptian residence or museum the serpent and his minions had destroyed held copies of the same artifact, a scroll, which I guess holds the key to defeating him. As far as I could tell, there was only one last copy of this scroll left in the world, and it was going to get destroyed tonight. The House of Life wasn’t doing well either. It was under a civil war. Amos, the head of all magicians, was still struggling after his possession by Set, the evil god of Chaos, and our side was weak. The House of Life was constantly battling the army of Chaos and the rebel side, which left only the Boston House in charge or figuring out how to prevent doomsday and keep Apophis from swallowing the sun.

The Kanes and I were getting bags ready. Sadie and Carter said their guess is that Apophis will strike a museum in Dallas next, so they were going to warn the magicians and snatch the last copy of the scroll before Apophis destroyed it. Bast was left in charge of the Boston House with Khufu, our baboon friend, while I was being sent off to recruit more young magicians to join our side. Bast hugged all three of us in turn, then pulled me aside and whispered “Call me if u need my help” into my ear, since she was my patron goddess and I was channeling her power.

“Stay safe my kittens and come back alive!” She announced to everyone.

She was almost like a mother to us, if you could consider a grown goddess who eats friskies and sleeps on the floor a mother figure. (Oh yes, I was still proud to channel her power). Sadie, Carter, and their companions took the boat strapped under the belly of a psycho griffin for their means of transportation, while I had to take a train and then a bus in the mortal world..with Justin. Oh joy.

I sat staring out the window of the bus and watched as the sun was getting lower in the horizon. Justin sat next to me and rumbled about some cool basketball game he saw recently, and some spell he recently learned, as though that would interest me. I sighed, and pulled my new Coach sunglasses down from my head to my face. Justin kept talking, apparently unaware that I was not paying any attention to him what-so-ever. Suddenly I was worried for Sadie and Carter. It was now the day of the assumed attack and near sunset, which is when Apophis strikes. I wondered how they are doing and if they will get out of Dallas alive. I felt a lump in my throat. I wished I could have gone with them, but I needed to help build up our so-called army. I really didn’t know how a group of young, unexperienced magicians could help defeat the supreme lord of evil but I hoped my friends knew what they were doing. I started dozing off, and I saw images from my dream from a few nights ago flash inside my eyelids. I saw the strange city again, the white marble buildings gleaming orange in a sunset. People went about their business on the crowded streets and there was something odd about their clothing, though I could not see close enough, but it looked like they were wearing togas like in those greek or roman pictures on books. Suddenly the dream changed and I saw green valleys outside the city, well formed armies marching forward and practicing their military disciplines. It reminded me of the wonderful days back when I didn’t know I was a magician and I was practicing dressage with my horse, over and over for hours each day, trying to achieve extreme discipline and poise. Except these people had no horses, only several square formations of soldiers marching through the vast, green lands. I woke up when I smacked my head on the glass window from the sudden jerk of the bus. We had officially arrived in San Francisco, California.

I felt tired and disoriented as I got off the bus, but thankfully Justin was my guide so I just followed him wherever he went. This was his home town and he knew every street in this giant place. Compared to Boston and New York, San Francisco was very different. Everything seemed to be more spread out and farther away, which I didn’t like. We were going to catch a cab to Justin’s house to stay there for the night, plus Justin obviously missed his mom, though he tried to hide his feelings in front of me. Aw how sweet.
