You get home around 7:50 PM. It'd been a long day at schools and then you had detention making it even better. You missed the bus and everything walking home isn't fun in general but when you live 10 miles from the school it all just adds up to a pile of crap. You trudge up to your doorway wiping the silent tears from your face with the sleeve of your (f/c) hoodie. As you go inside the house you dropped your bag on the floor and walked towards the kitchen to get some cheesy rice for dinner. While the rice heats up in the microwave you go upstairs to change in to some comfy sweats and turn on Netflix so you could binge watch a new show that you'd started as of recent. You look at the note left on your plain white door, "Hey, Won't be home till early morning so don't wait up. Double shift again." You scoffed as you opened the door and grabbed the note throwing it feverishly in the trash can next to your desk. How many times had your mom used this excuse? 10, 20? Mmm.. A MILLION! Your mom worked at the psychiatric ward across town. Ever since your brother had been murdered your mom had shut down. Not unlike before when your brother was alive but at least she would try to be with you guys every once in awhile! Now she is; overworking, drinking, selling her body. Anything to the numb that aching pain that was permanently marked on both your hearts.
Your dad had left right after you were born. Max, your brother, had been 2 at the time. Once he was about 5, mom would leave him to take care of you seeing as someone had to the bills. Around the time you became 5 Max had to start school and couldn't take care of you. You spent 2 of your toddler years going to the ward with your mother. Finally you too went to school with Max. You guys would walk home. you on his back or hand in hand every day for years until you reached about middle school. When Max joined the swim team in highschool you were still in middle school thank goodness that the schools were half a block away from each other at most.
You were walking to the pool room after school to watch Max swim once again. You were a sophomore he was a senior. You'd go and do your homework while sitting on the bleachers listening to "emo child" music as Max called it. Cheering on Max as always. You two were close. Closer than most honestly. When you were about 10 your mom had to get rid of a lot of things around your guys apartment. This included; the couch, your bed, the TV, and eben the gas to the stove. Your mom made you and Max sleep together. Same bed for 6 months. This wasn't off or wrong to either of you seeing as you'd been getting night terrors since you were small maybe 4 or 5 years old. He was always the one who would hold you as you cried and thrashed about unable to wake from your haunting nightmares. Ever since you guys would sleep together and do just about everything together.
As you began to walk through the pool room doors Josh, both yours and Max's Best Friend, picked you up making you squeal out of surprise!
You and Josh used to be a thing but it just became an uncomfortable relationship. You guys were always fighting and nagging at each other. Constant bickering. Finally you both came to the conclusion that the relationship was extremely unhealthy and that you may not love each other romantically but you definitely did as a friend.
Josh plopped you down on the bleachers and took off for the boys locker room. Once all the boys got changed the usual routine set in for the day then around 4:00 coach started to let the boys practice whatever they really needed to practice. It was only 4:38 PM when it happened. An hour and 18 minutes into practice... Max had jumped of the board and was swimming fast, hard and strong. When suddenly, his heart... just... kinda... gave up. A heart attack in the water. He'd done this all the time why was this suddenly happening now?!
It was later confirmed murder, done by a very extremely regrettable and practically heartbroken ex of Josh's. She had out an extreme adrenaline powder on a hamburger that josh was supposed to eat but didn't seeing as he felt ill at lunch therefore your brother being a stomach ate it all in one big bite. When swimming he over worked his heart and died. That was over a year ago now. And you were still a sad little ball of depression practically living alone and cutting. Like I said before you only wanted to find a way to dull the aching pain this was your way.
You hear the microwave go of and quickly run down stairs grab the food and rush back up not wanting to dwell on the past any longer than you had to. You snuggled under the covers and finished dinner quickly then slowly you fell asleep watching your show.
