Prannoy looked at the clock. It was 2 o'clock. Again. It was p.m this time. This was the 11th time he had caught the clock exactly at 2 o'clock this week. He looked away and went about his routine; although he knew an uneasy feeling had cropped up in his head after the 7th instance.
Prannoy Sorkar's great grandfather was a clockmaker. The clock company was called Sorkar & Co., and had gone bankrupt a few years after his father had taken over. The specimen in Prannoy's room was the very last clock made by Sorkar and Co.
That night, Prannoy woke up with a start. He'd dreamt that he was running a race with a big and mean looking clock that had 'Sorkar' embossed on its chest. He was running as fast as he could, but the clock kept gaining on him. Just like time. The clock finally caught up and looked at him, and asked 'What's the time Prannoy?'. He woke up panting and looked up at the clock. He knew the exact time even before he had laid his eyes on the clock.
But something was wrong with this 2 o'clock. The clocks hands had stopped ticking. He opened the wooden latch on the side to open the front panel and look inside.
Five minutes later, his neighbours saw him running out of his house like a mad man and shouting '2 o'clock just twice a day. A man's got to seize the day'. That was the last time Prannoy was ever seen.
