She pulled her sword out of the elderly man's body. She wiped the blade to get the scarlet liquid off. The girl stared emotionlessly at the man she had just killed in cold blood and whispered a quick, "I'm sorry."
She walked away and sheathed her sword. Selia Wedtrow was a hired assassin. She wasn't an ordinary assassin, she was an elite. Selia was a part of The Grand Five, the top five assassins in the world. She was ranked third but that hardly bothered her. She got jobs fairly often and it paid good money.
Not enough money in the world would convince her to reveal her identity. Names hold power. Her codename was The Raven . Why? She wears all black. Black pants, black shirt, black hood and black sword. Her hair was black and her eyes a were a deathly shade of grey. Lastly, her magic was black.
Even though her magic is extremely powerful, she refuses to accept mage jobs. Her parents worked as mages so it was too painful to take those kind of jobs. People know that, so only the richest and nastiest people give her jobs. She couldn't care less. She just doesn't care about anything at all.
Her family was killed by an assassin. The Mauler, the number one assassin, that's who killed her family. Her family had powerful magic, her mother had light magic and her farther had dark magic. They were powerful mages. They stopped working as much when their family was about to grow.
Then Selia and her twin brother, Ari, were born. Nobody could tell they were twins, they were complete opposites. Ari had blonde hair, while hers was black. He had golden eyes, hers was gray. He had tan skin from being outside, she had pale skin due to her staying inside all the time. Ari had light magic and selia has dark magic. Even with their differences, they loved each other. Sure they argued about which was better, playing outside or staying inside to read a book. Even with arguing, they couldn't stay mad at each other forever.
Unfortunately, one day they had a huge fight, " Why don't you ever come outside? You need to make friends!" If Ari started yelling, than Selia would start yelling, and neither 7 year old would give in.
"I told you already! I'm not good with people. Why won't you accept that?" They were both fuming with anger. "I can't be the only one you talk to. I'm not going to be with you forever. Especially if you're acting how you are right now."
That remark hit her hard. Tears started to brim her eyes but she wouldn't allow herself to let Ari see her cry. She quickly turned around and started walking toward the door.
"Yeah, you're right. You're not going to be with me forever. But maybe it would be better without a brother who hates me. Well, at least you'll be happy." She walked out the door as tears started falling from her eyes. She wandered out of the small village and sat by a tree. She felt horrible but she didn't feel as bad as her brother did.
His little sister thought he hated her. He was only a couple minutes older than her but he felt responsible for taking care of her. He started to follow her but hand on his shoulder stopped him.
"Give her time, Ari. You know insecure she is. She needs her space." His dad looked down at him. Selia was the spitting image of their father. He reluctantly nodded and went to think in his room.
Before they both realized, it was getting dark. Selia didn't mind being in the dark, but she knew her parents would worry. She sighed and started heading home. When she was outside the door, she thought it was too quiet. She opened the door with a squeak.
The metallic smell hit her nose as she walked in. The living room floor was covered with red liquid. Her parents were in the center of the room, bleeding out. Multiple cuts were spread on their skin, but the worst areas were the stomach and chest.
Selia was in complete shock. She tried to resist the urge to throw up. She then saw a smaller body in the corner and stumbled over to it. Selia saw Ari, in the same condition as their parents. The only difference was that his face was covered in blood. His right eye was completely cut out, while his left eye was closed. She fell to her knees, not caring about getting blood on her. Tears started streaming and she couldn't help but scream. Her family was slaughtered and now she was all alone.
At the door she saw two identical presents. She crawled over to the packages, not trusting her legs to walk. On one of the presents a tag said, "Happy Birthday, Selia!" Her and Ari's birthday was tomorrow and she would spend it alone.
She took the gift and continued to crawl out the door. After she made it out she stood up and ran, ignoring the crowd that had surrounded the house. Her scream had attracted all nearby civilians. Before she had gotten out of earshot, she heard, "Please make way. I'm a doctor. There might be survivors." Selia knew better, she knew that they were all dead. They were gone, so she kept running.
She ran until she completely collapsed. She opened the package and saw a beautiful black sword. She became an assassin to avenge her family. She would not rest until she had killed The Mauler.
Ten years later, and here she was. Selia got to her small house. Not that many personal items were inside. She rested for a couple hours and regained her strength.
She sighed and pulled on her hood. She decided to go to the center of town to get a job off The Board. The Board was at the center of every town and village. It didn't look the same in every town but it served the same purpose everywhere.
It listed all job offers that were placed. The same jobs were in every single system. They would disappear as soon as somebody takes it. As well as taking jobs, you could also place jobs at The Board.
The jobs that don't appear on all boards are the jobs sent directly to a worker. Those were usually the type of jobs Selia would get.
She walked to the center of town and walked into a white building. The Board wasn't an actual board, it was a building. A lot of people were there. They were all scrolling through the different jobs.
She walked to an empty circle on the floor. She stopped in the circle of the circle and stood there until it glowed a light blue. In front of her appeared a white and blue screen. Once you step inside of a circle, it automatically recognizes who you are. She pulled up her direct messages and saw a job she could take. Selia quickly read the request, clicked accept and exited the circle. Her job was to kill a young tycoon, who's been selling illegal magic items. The pay was 1 million Mako.
She should be back in a couple of days. It would Selia a while to get to the place where the job was, so it would take her longer than usual. Selia went home and started packing. She packed some clothes, food, money/Mako, and all the essentials. She waited until nightfall to head out.
