Christine: You must be like me, am a good girl.

EVA: I bet you are. Why do you pretend to love school more than your talent?

CHRISTINE: It is not that I don't love singing but you know my parents are both teachers,right? They work hard, hoping and expecting me to be a doctor some day.

EVA: That's your problem Christine ,continue living your parents' life but for me, I won't.

CHRISTINE: Alright, that's a talk for another day .So what happened yester night at the music session?

EVA: You will not believe this, Kelvin came. I never thought this would happen.

CHRISTINE: Who is Kelvin?

EVA: The tall black guy from Form Four West.

CHRISTINE: Oh, I see.

EVA: I think we have a chemistry.He also loves music and oh my God,i wish you could see the way he looked at me with his small puppy eyes,his lips curving sideways and I watched as he licked his milky teeth in slow motion,revealing the dimple on the side of his left cheek ,the way he overshadowed me with his height,his broadened shoulders, oh i almost saw myself being held by those big hands pressing me against him and his lips and mine meeting.Let me just get out of this fantasy.So when it was his turn to sing, he called me.We did a very nice piece I wish you were there.The vocals were perfect but we didn't record it .

CHRISTINE: Awww someone has a crush.Too bad I missed it but I will get another chance.

EVA: You will.At least it could have been my first recording but not with just anyone. Kelvin is my crush you were right about that part.

CHRISTINE : Just chill out Eve, we have only three months left in high school then we can go on to college. We will do anything we want; singing, partying, Karaoke nights on Tuesdays and there will be no more worries of being late at home.

EVA: Alright, though I have no plans of going to college I have a talent my life is music and definitely my career is music. But this is a promise to you. One day I will be someone in this ungrateful universe.

CRISTINE: Ok Tasha we are near the school you might want to wear that school tie of yours.

EVA: Come on Christine, I don't think Mr. Kinuthia is around this early.

CHRISTINE : Continue thinking and you know you have some unfinished business with him. First, for being late last week, walking with an untucked shirt yesterday,for not having a school tie on Monday at the assembly and still yesterday he warned you about that skirt.

EVA: It's usually fun though, let me put it on.

{They get in the school gate .On their way to the classroom ,along the corridors all eyes are on Eva first because of her walking style, her dressing code but as usual Eva is always about the music any where she goes .She is either rapping, singing or listening to music. She gets in her classroom and sits in the back .Her locker has graffiti ,names of musicians and drawings it look s like an art decoration board. The other students like Christine are settled , they are busy studying. But Christine removes hey music notebook and starts to write the lyrics as usual.The teacher gets in ,its Eva's favorite teacher MR. KINUTHIA }

Mr. KINUTHIA : Good morning students.

{All the students answer back morning to you to sir except from Eva ]

Mr. KINUTHIA: Eva!Where are your thoughts today what is not happening?

EVA: Nothing sir am all good.

Mr. KINUTHIA: Alright, students I have some good news today it has not been easy but it is now possible there will be an inter- schools talent competition which will feature all the public schools in the district. So I have done my part now it is up to you to register your name and the category in which you wish to participate remember there is 20,000 shillings and winners shield on the table to be won.

{All student scream but Eva's voice was the loudest}

Mr. KINUTHIA: Am glad you are happy Eva you seem the happiest .What do you plan on delivering that day? And remember the competition is in two weeks time.

Eva : Am not as stupid as you think ,just because the mathematics you teach us does not get in my head I have other things I can do pretty well.You will see.

Mr. KINUTHIA: Okay students, if you are interested in the following categories; acting, comedy, singing, rap battle, debate and poetry, follow me after the class is over so that you can register.

{The teacher walks out of the class ,Eva and some other students follow him to his office Christine included}

Christine: This the chance you have been waiting for Eva ,if you fail you will have wasted your four high school years.

Eva: Who said I will lose the competition? Music is in my DNA .Just wait and see.

Christine: Alright just remember am also in the competition although I wouldn't want my parents to know I am competing.

Eva: That there is what will make me win coz am not afraid. I do the music for me but you must consider what your parents will think.

{As they approach MR. KINUTHIA'S office they meet students from other classes. Here Eva meets Kelvin }

Kelvin: Hey you.

Eva: Hey.

Kelvin: Had a great time yesterday hope you didn't get into trouble with your mum.

Eva: No its all good I also had a good time.So you are also in the competition?

Kelvin: Yeah am in but I won't go easy on you I must win.

Eva: I don't expect you to .I'm coming hard coz this is all I know.

Kelvin: Alright, see you in the evening.

Eva: See you.

{Kelvin walks away as Eva and Christine walks in Mr. KINUTHIA'S office}

Mr. KINUTHIA : So Eva you are always late for school and to submit your assignment but in this you are among the first students .It's good to know you have one thing you love.

Eva: Yeah music is my thing just wait and see the 20k is mine.

Christine: You are not the only one in the competition.

Mr. KINUTHIA: Now this type of competition is what I want you to bring on that day.

Eva: We will it's our last in high school. It will be one of the best.

Mr. KINUTHIA: So I have decided Christine you will be the captain of our school team. All those participating since you have proven to be all rounded.

Christine: Thank you very much I won't let you down.

Mr. KINUTHIA: Now go back to class.

Eva: Thanks.

{They both walk out of the door laughing they look excited . Mr. KINUTHIA is left skimming through the names of the registered students}

{It's 6.00 o'clock in the evening. Eva and Christine are walking home still exited}

Christine: So are you still going today?

Eva: I must go you heard Mr. KINUTHIA only the best will win that competition. I must go rehearse

Christine: But we have our rehearsals in school why do you have to go?
