"an error of judgment"The bell signaling for the end of the school day rung for the last time that year. Everybody jumped out of their seats, wanting nothing more than to get off of campus and back home where summer break could officially start. It might as well have been a stampede. You either moved with the crowd or you got trampled. One or the other. It was almost like that in Jeon Jungkook's life now.
Four of the seven boys in the friend group had agreed to meet at Hoseok's house after school that day. Jungkook was not one of them. He had decided that he would go to the library, even though he despised reading. Namjoon, Jimin, Taehyung and Hoseok all checked back with the three remaining boys not coming to Hoseok's house, just to make sure.
"Yeah, I'll catch up with you later. I'll text you," Jungkook answered for everyone else. Yoongi and Seokjin nodded and headed their separate ways. But Jungkook still stood there. He was looking at everybody else talking and having a good time without him, like he was forgotten already. He felt slightly disappointed, but turned around to the library after a few more seconds.Back at Hoseok's house, everybody else was just chatting about what they would want to do over the summer. They all had beers, even though they fell short of the age limit that permits drinking. Namjoon, has persuaded everyone that it would be alright, that no one would find out. Everybody respected Namjoon, so they trusted him equally as much.
With silence coming over the room, Jimin decided to break it. "Uhh, Hoseok! You still have that air hockey thingy down in the basement don't you?" Hoseok gave small nods, a thoughtful look coming across his face.
"Yes, I believe I do. Dunno that it stills works though."
"We can give it a shot," Taehyung said, looking towards the basement door. Namjoon remained quiet.
"Well lets go then!" Jimin said excitedly. He set his beer down on the floor and jumped over the back of the couch. Right as everyone else was getting up, Namjoon interrupted.
"Guys cmon. What're the chances that that ol thing still even works? It's only been there for ages, let's be realistic." Everybody else looked slightly confused, and turned their bodies back to face him.
"My dad still goes down there sometimes. I've sure he's played around with it once or twice," Hoseok said slowly, debating whether or not Namjoon was hiding something. "And besides, it's not been there for THAT long. We only got it 5 months ago, not even half a year!"
"Eh, you guys go ahead. I'll stay here, no worries. Don't wanna waste my time fooling with something that won't even work in the first place," Namjoon countered. He had expected everyone to take a step or two back and stay upstairs with him, so when they all decided to go to the basement anyways, he had been pretty shocked. He was desperate not to show it, shock is a difficult emotion to hide. Or fake. But maybe he should've told them the truth.
