Breathing...
One of the bodies automatic functions. In and out. In and out. Out and in. As Indy rested on her bed and stared blankly at the ceiling, she thought. Just then a subtle tear flowed down her cheek. soon more came right after. moments went by as her vision started to blur. she said silently '' why me " as her tears stained the pillowcase. These past weeks, the sobbing fits became the norm. She investigated the palms of her small hands and sighed heavily. One day, something good will happen" she whispered to herself. One day.
(6:40 a.m. alarm) *I'm willing to die for this shit, I'm ready to flip and end in prison the rest of life for this sh-*
Indy turned off her alarm with instant regret on her face. " great" she thinks, " time for hel- I mean school". She rolled out her bed and heads to the door. Already at 7 in the morning, she can hear her momma is fussing out her brother Darrel downstairs. "Probably about why he came in late last night " she but she just continued walking. She knew that D was in a gang, but he didn't know that and planned to keep it that way. "if D takes me to school everyday, i don't care". Halfway down the hallway her sister Tanya pushed past her saying " why don't you move ya ass over . you take up the whole hallway anyways". Indy watched her walk away as she said to herself " with all that switching she does, she might break her fucking hips". she rolled he eyes and continued into the bathroom and locking the door behind her.
Putting on her playlist, YBN Nahmir blasted through the speakers. "bitch I'm a P, bitch I'm a G, took that lil bitch now that bitch off the leash" Indy rapped along letting the hot water hit her back as the music suddenly shut off. Her mom yelled " it just better be four of ya monkey asses in there with all that hot water you using. you better be out in the next five minutes" slamming the door shut behind her. she mimicked "better be four of ya monkey asses" rolling her eyes again and stepping out. walking back to her room , she went to closet to pick out something simple. She decided on a black Nike shirt, light blued ripped jeans, air force ones, with a gold Casio watch, baseball hat, diamond earrings to top it off, with her hair in a low ponytail . Feeling satisfied with her outfit, she glided down the steep stairs to the kitchen. Her mom sat at the kitchen reading a magazine as Indy almost did some ninja stealth shit, just for her mom to not see her grab an apple out the fruit bowl. She creeped out the kitchen sat on the couch scrolling through Instagram. Just then her other sister Tamara comes downstairs on the phone crying about some boy who just wanted to hit and quit. "dumbass number 2 has finally arrived" she thought, popping in her earphones and listening to nvm's new song (check the kid out on souncloud though 🤪). 20 minutes goes by and she sees no sign of Darrel. Pulling out her phone to call him, somebody knocks on the door. Thinking it would be him she opens to the door to fuss him out, she sees the man she thought she would never hear from again... her own father.
A couple years back, her father Damien used to sell drugs in and out of the neighborhood. he used to drive the newest cars and wore the best clothes. She didn't know at the time where the money was coming from, but she didn't care. To her, her dad was her hero. We all know the rule "never get high on your own supply, right? Well that's exactly what he did. One day he wondered why people where so hooked on coke. The first time he tried it, he couldn't stop. Eventually he was spending more money on his addiction than he was making. Then, he started owing the local drug dealers money that he used to work with. But at home, Indy was living her own nightmare. He would come home high and beat on everyone. One day, he drained her mom's bank account and ran off leaving Indy's mom to raise the kids. Indy had never had so much hate for one person in all her life. The first thing her dad said was " Hey princess. Look at you. You're so big. Listen, you think I can borrow a couple dollars? You know, for a haircut". Behind him, she noticed it was a black 2017 Chevy Avalanche. Realizing that dudes in the game lived and sold around here, she just brushed it off as the usual. Looking at him right in the eyes she said " fuck you, you inconsiderate bitch. Not over my dead body". Damien said, " I'm still your father so you're going to give me some mf respect". Right there, she knew he was high as a kite. Indy said, " nah nigga, you lost that privilege when you started snorting". At that moment Damien raised his hand to slap her across the face when Darrel appeared out of nowhere and pointed a Diamondback at his temple. He said, " there will never be another day in my life would you get away with hitting my sister". Damien slowly put his hand down and backed away trying to explain it was a misunderstanding. Realizing he wasn't changing anything, he walked quickly across the street and got into the truck Indy was looking at. Without saying anything to each other, Indy picked up her book bag and walked to D's car and put it in the backseat. Throughout her life, Darrel was the only person to protect her and tell her that she was beautiful the way she looked and that any dude would be lucky to have her. she sat there and listened by that didn't mean she had to believe him. Hopping into the car , Indy broke the silence with "what are got that for"? " oh nothing" he replied, "just for protection". Halfway to school he started talking about the girl he smashed last night and how good she was, but she popped her earphones and listened to music nodding her head like she was listening. As they pulled up to the curb of her high school, she gave him a quick dap, grabbing her bag and on her way into the doors.
