Chapter 5

Valeria Estévez

❝ Faith is daring the soul to go beyond what the eyes see. For we walk by faith, not by sight.❞

"So how long have you been working for Volkan?," I stirred my tea before taking a sip of the hot beverage.

"Straight to the point, huh?" Xavier chuckled, sipping his own coffee.

I arrived at the Brewing Tea café, which Xavier send me the address to, twenty minutes ago.
I called him this morning, requesting him to meet for breakfast rather than lunch.

I want to believe that I called him because I simply wanted to meet him for breakfast but I knew that I did so because last night events had me freaked out and I didn't wanted to be alone at the cabin.

I woke up this morning to find the injured wolf gone. It was almost like he wasn't there.
I would have believed that I dreamed about the whole thing, if it had not been the first aid kit left by the sofa and dried blood on the carpet.
While I tried my best to tend to his injuries, I managed to make the wound start bleeding again.

I know, so helpful.

Hence, his blood stained the carpet and the some of the floor.

I remember falling asleep after he, what I assumed, passed out on the floor. But the next morning he was gone.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't relieved to see him gone but a part of me was saddened and worried about him.

I only wish he doesn't come back.

"Alright then, how old are you? You seem young enough to be in college," I folded my hands in the table, peering at him.

He chuckled, "believe it or not I'm twenty eight, almost twenty nine actually."

"Really? Wow," I widened my eyes, holding my cup close to my mouth.
And I thought he looked like he just turned twenty one.

He stared down at the table with a grin, "my father had been a lawyer to your family for years, and I simply followed." He spoke abruptly, answering my prior question.

There it was again. The mention of my family.

Before I could mutter a word, a middle aged lady came up to our table and greeted Xavier.

"Xavi," she smiled at him, putting her left hand on his shoulder.

"Aunt Ria!" Xavier stands to embrace her with a huge grin on his face

"Aunt Ria!" Xavier stands to embrace her with a huge grin on his face.

She is... beautiful.

"Hello, sweetness," she smiles at him, pulling back and turning to look at me.

"H-hello," she stuttered, seemingly shocked by seeing me.

"Aunti, meet Salena. Salena Reed, Volkan's sister.
Salena, this is my aunt, Valeria Estévez", He gave her a pointed look.

"Why, yes. You both have same sparkly eyes," she gave me a nervous laugh.

She knows my brother?

Xavier looked at me with amusing eyes, while I stood up feeling a bit awkward.

"Pleasure to meet you Ma'am," I offered my hand but was pulled in a hug by Valeria.
"Oh," I laughed.

"Oh, there's no need for formalities dear, call me Valeria. Or Ria, if you must. Our families have been friends for so many years. Though I have to mention, I'm a big fan of your writing." She smiled gripping unto my arms.

"Thank you," I smiled, feeling my cheeks getting warm.

Her family has been friends with ours.
A voice softly whispered.

I looked around, suddenly feeling uncanny with the voice.

"-I'm so glad we got an opportunity to meet-" Her voice became vague as my head throbbed with sharp pain and the voice inside my head grew louder, speaking things I couldn't fathom.

Pythonissam! Bonum pythonissam!

Feeling my head getting heavy, I fluttered my eyes closed.
My body feels extremely weak.

Nihil. Nihil! Vigilate!

Overcome from powerful fatigue, I stumbled, only to be caught by someone, "Salena!"

Nihil! Adiuvare nos possunt non! Nihil!

And the last thing I remember before losing consciousness, was a gentle touch on the forehead.
