Blinded

chapter one

• Kenzie's POV •

"Hey, wanna order pizza for dinner?" My brother, Mason, yells from the kitchen. "Umm, sure." I say. Since my dad is always away, we don't really make home made foods. Yet, it's amazing how skinny him and I are.

"I can get Redbox or whatever you want. Anything specific?" Mason asks. Do I want anything? I'm never really a needy child. My dad says I was pretty easy.

"No, I'm good. But thanks. I think I'm just going to go to bed" I reply, as I walk upstairs.

Once in my bedroom, I head straight to my shower. As the warm water poors on my back, I think about Axton. Why does he have to date so many girls? Why can't he just, like me? Oh well.

I thought to myself. Eventually getting out and getting dressed, I sit in bed, just as my phone goes off. I look at it, and see it's a message from Axton

Axton: broke up with Brook, but not because of the reasons I was going to.

Kenzie: aw man, what happened?

Axton: can I come over?

I look at the time. It's only 9:30, so it should be fine. He'll be in time for dinner. I text him back "sure" and run down stairs to tell Mason.

"Hey, Axton is coming over For dinner." I say to Mason, he nods and just keeps looking at his phone.

He is never this absorbed with his phone.

"Are you okay?" I ask, walking over to him. He looks at me, with tears in his eyes.
He never cries, what happened?

"Mason, what happened..?" I ask, sitting next to him on the couch. Him being older then me by three years, I've never ever seen him cry. And even the fact that he's nineteen, makes it even more unusual.

"She cheated on me." He says, and then starts bawling his eyes out.

That tramp cheated on my brother! I thought. While thinking, he lays his head on my shoulder, and just cries. What else can I do? She cheated on him after five years of being together!

"Hello?" Someone says from the kitchen. As I can hear the foot steps getting louder, I look up and see Axton standing there. He gives me a confusing look, and points to Mason.

I mouth "I'll tell you later." As Axton comes and sits next time me on the couch.

Just then the doorbell rang. Mason jumps up and wipes the tears "pizza!" He says, with a small smile. As he leaves to go get the pizza, Axton turns to me and I say "his girlfriend cheated on him." He just nods, and finally says "that's makes two of us. I went to go over to Brook's house, since she was home alone, you know?" He says. I nod, giving him the sign to go on. "Since her house was unlocked, I went in, and up to her bedroom." He takes a short pause. "And I heard her with some other guy. He noticed me, and as soon as she did, I ran out of the house."

He looked emotionless.  I just pull him into a hug, and shortly after that, Mason comes over and hugs us two.
After our hug, Mason pulls away and says "you guys want pizza?" We both nod and all get some. As we sit, we all talk about anything but girlfriends.

"I'm going over to James house, you need anything before I leave?" Mason says. I nod my head. "We're just going to watch some movies, drive safe Mason." I say, with a smile.

• Axton's POV •

As I'm on my way to my girlfriend Brook's house, I think of ways to break up with her. Like, she was super clingy one day, and a complete bitch the next, and I couldn't handle it.

She hated Kenz too, she'd always try to chase Kenz away, and I couldn't stand it.

As I think about how much I need to break up with Brook, I didn't even notice I'm in her drive way. She texted me earlier saying she's home alone, but I told her I couldn't make it, so hopefully she'll be accepting that I showed up in surprise.

As I walk in her house, since she always leaves her from door open, I quietly make my way up to her room. But as I get closer, I hear her.
And some other guy.

I get to her door, which is open, and see her with some other guy. "Uhh, babe" I hear the guy say. She looks at him, and then at me.

As soon as she saw me, I ran out of the house, and drove away. But honestly, did I feel hurt? Hell yeah! I've never cheated on any of the girls I dated, unless you count the crush I've had, during all of those girls. Same girl, just to scared to ask her out.

I text Kenzie, and ask if I can come over, as she replies yes, I make my way to her house.

I walk in, I see her and her brother on the couch, and Mason is....crying? Wait, what? I've known Mason as long as I've known Kenz, and he's never cried. I give Kenz a confused look, and point at Mason. She mouthed "I'll tell you later." But just then the doorbell rang.

Mason got up and tried to become happy again "pizza is here." He says.

After eating the pizza, Kenz and I went up to her room to watch some movies. "What do you wanna watch?" Kenzie asked me. I look at her, and put my hang out. She gives me a unsure look, but hands over the remote.

As I scroll through the movies and shows on Netflix, I pick the very amazing movie "The fundimentals of caring" and get into Kenzie's bed, laying next to her.

As the movie goes on, I look over and Kenz, and see she was crying, but not making any sounds. I nudge her with my shoulder and ask "hey, what's wrong?" In a calming voice. She just nods her head and covers her face up with her hands.

I take both of her hands in mine, and look her straight in the face. "I'm going to ask you one more time, what is wrong?" She took a deep breath and started telling me in a very quiet voice. "Mason, I've never seen him so upset. And I can't do anything about it."

She loves her brother, and anyone can tell you. And it hurts me knowing I can help her. "Hey, he'll be okay. I promise." I say. It's all I can think of. She's hurting! All we were doing was watching a movie, and something triggered her mind to think of her brother.

All I want to do is kiss her, and hug her. Telling her everything is going to be okay. But, I don't think I can take the rejection. She's my life and loosing her would kill me!

God, why does no other girl make me feel this way? It's only her. "A-are you o-okay?" Kenz asks me, I was so caught up in my thoughts, it went awkwardly silent. "Yeah, I'm fine." I reply, in a whisper.

The next thing I know, she climbs into my lap and lays her head on my chest. "Thanks for always being here for me, Axton. You truly are the bestest of friends." She says, with a small giggle at the end. "You too kenz, I love you." I say, but she's already asleep. As I lay us down slowly, she moves that way she's still laying on my chest.

I start rubbing in a circular motion on her back, and place a small kiss on the top of her head. If I could wake up to her every morning, I'd be the happiest man alive.
