Despite the fact that everyone else had barred the windows of their homes, the young maiden did not heed to the warnings of her grandmother. Once she made sure that everyone in the house was asleep, she discreetly opened her window and simply gazed at the stars and the moon. It really was bright. Perhaps it really was magical. She scoffed to herself, she knew magic was not real. The moon was always this bright, she just never bothered to take the time to look at it because if everyone's superstitions.
She sighed, "You're not real, Boy-King." She gazed up at the sky once more before she closed her window. However, she did not bother to lock the windowsill, determined to prove that the Boy-King would not take her. Suddenly, a bright light shined from the moon. It lit up the whole sky for a few seconds and it looked like it was day time. She quickly ran to her window and opened it once more, hoping to get a better look at what was happening. But as soon as the light came, it was gone. The night resumed as if nothing happened. Did this happen every full moon? What about every decade? Was it the Boy-King? It could not be him, could it? He is merely a story.
The young maiden could not help but wonder how nobody was awake and trying to figure out why the sky lit up. She gazed out the window in hopes of seeing someone she did not recognize. Maybe they could be the source of the light. But to her dismay, she saw no one, not even a little squirrel passing by. She let out a huff of of disappointment and closed her window once again. Slowly, she made her way to her bed and curled up beneath her quilts and let sleep take over her.

In his realm, Boy-King prepared his portal. He used the energy of the moon to power up the swirling vortex. He gathered his boys. They were to inspect the village or roughhouse, whatever they pleased as long as they returned when they were summoned, the Boy- King did not care what they did. When he stepped through, all the light disappeared from his realm and shined through in the other realm for a few seconds. No one noticed his entrance as they were all keeping their windows barred so that he does not take their precious daughters. The Boy-King laughed to himself. He found it amusing that humans thought that they could keep him out of they locked their windows.
He began walking through the village. He inspected each house and everything was barred shut. It was as if everyone had disappeared. It was like this village became a ghost town. He did not bother breaking in. Any girl he would have kidnapped would have been another whiny girl who would follow the boring routine that he had grown accustomed to. Being alive for so many centuries made the Boy-King yearn for someone new, someone who would break the chain.
He continued walking along the village for a while, until something strange caught his eye. A window was closed, but it was not locked. Perhaps there was no young girl in the household, but that did not stop him from climbing up to the windowsill and looking through to see what he could find. A grin made its way to the Boy-King's face. There on the small bed in the room, lay a young girl, fast asleep. It seemed as though she was asking to be taken, but he did not want to take another girl would would only get on his nerves. Instead, he let her sleep as he formulated a plan. He scratched the windowpane to mark the windowsill. Then, he retreated into the darkness of the vast forest and joined the rest of his Lost Boys.

The young maiden dreaded the upcoming evening. Her parents were still upset with her keeping her window open three nights ago. It seemed to have caused a very weird feeling around the house. She was not sure if that was because of the window incident or because her parents were busy with getting her ready for her outing with Maxim or if it was her older brothers realizing that they had to meet their wives soon. Perhaps it was a little bit of both. Either way, she decided to keep her mouth shut. Adrian had tried to make amends with her, but she was still hurt. Her heart wanted to forgive him, but her mind told her not to let Adrian off easily. This was another one of her current dilemmas.
