I tried my best to live a life filled with excitement.
"Target acquired. 62, he's right around the corner," I instructed. My partner of 2 hours sprinted to the location of our target, Esclov. He just finished another transaction and we've been watching him for the past month now. I can't lose him. Besides, we're in a car park, he's in his most gullible state.
"I can't do it, he's surrounded with guards."
This is why I hate having partners.
I got out of the SUV we were staking out in, I chucked a fully loaded pistol out from my backpack and headed towards Esclov. Men are useless if they don't have the balls to fight. Esclov had 6 bodyguards and I had 6 bullets, perfect. The key to a perfect attack is patience and persistence. Wait for the right time to attack and keep on attacking till your last breath. Stupid, I know, but so far it has worked for me.
"Cover me." I whispered to 62, he was hiding behind a car. See, useless.
I am 3 cars away from Esclov's and it will take him and his bodyguards exactly 6.5 seconds to reach their car. They are currently 3 cars south from their vehicle. I went to their car just when they are right in front of it.
"Esclov." I called.
His bodyguards automatically got their guns out and surrounded Esclov. I ran towards the one nearest to me and kicked his gun out of his hand. He pulled out a knife from his pocket and swung at me. He tried to stab me in the shoulder but I shot him dead first. Another one charged at me but I twisted his arm, took his gun and kicked it away and shot him with my own. The remaining bodyguards all went at me at the same time, all earning a bullet to the head.
I win.
"You're under arrest for possession of illegal drugs and for drug trafficking. Anything you say or do can be used against you. You know the rest." I said while aiming my gun at him, Esclov raised both of his arms in surrender.
"62, call HQ." 62 emerged from his hiding spot and called more agents. I handcuffed Esclov and pinned him to the ground.
"You know, you should get a new bodyguard agency and get guards who can actually protect you." I scoffed. I hated men like him, they turn our society into mindless zombies with their drugs just so they can earn money -pathetic.
Back up and medics arrived a few minutes later, "You did it again, 99. You never fail to impress me." Chief said, he trained me when I first started in the DEA, he treated me like his own daughter. He's basically my dad. "Thanks, Chief." I answered.
"You didn't have to kill the guards, 99." Ben, our CSI commented. I ignored him, I didn't have to answer to him anyways.
"Partner, the General needs you at HQ." Everybody was afraid of the General, I was an exception. He has never been mad at me even once. I do my job and I do it right so there's no reason for him to be mad.
I made my way to the HQ and was greeted by everyone.
"Job well done,99"
"You did it again, agent."
"Here's out top agent!"
I never really talked to anyone except if it's necessary. I don't like getting attached to people except for Chief. Getting attached means getting emotions involved and that doesn't work well when you're an agent.
I reached the General's office and knocked three times as a sign of respect and acknowledgement that I am about to come in. I opened the door and was greeted by a weird smile from the General.
"Sir." I greeted,
"99, congratulations on catching Esclov. It was already expected since an agent like you was in-charge of such case." He said and motioned for me to sit on the seat adjacent to his table.
"Thanks."
"I'll get straight to the point. The DEA is blessed to have an agent like you but because of your outstanding performance other DEA agents are getting a little rusty from the lack of cases. We have assigned you to a task in South Korea and will be going undercover."
Shit.
"Sir, you know how much I hate going undercover. Why not send 62 to South Korea?" I have had the worst experiences while going undercover. I hated it, I hated the tasks that goes with it and most of all, I hated lying.
"This one's my present for you. Me and Chief Green have seen you grow into a beautiful and strong young lady but we also want you to enjoy your youth. Girls your age aren't supposed to be out in the world killing and tracking down drug dealers. Please do this this one for yourself, you'll love it." He said with an assuring smile.
I may be tough but General made me realize how pitiful I was. Growing up as an orphan wasn't easy. I had to go home everyday from school crying because of bullies calling me names because of my social status. The moment Chief adopted me and showed me how it was like being an agent, I swore that I will be the best one and make Chief proud. I wasn't like other girls my age, I did not ask for a Gucci bag on my sixteenth birthday, I asked for a gun. I did not ask for a eighteenth birthday party, I asked to be recruited at the DEA. My life might seem sad to everyone else but I was surprisingly happy with it. The feeling I got when I received my badge, my first award and the awards after filled the gap of having a normal life. I do not know what this next assignment will bring but I guess it's time for some changes.
