Melanie was sick, and not just sore throat, runny nose sick. but throwing up high fever sick. She had stayed home all week with this illness and started feeling better over the weekend. It was Monday and she was feeling a little better but wanted to stay home one more day just to be sure.
She slept in late and watched a movie when she woke up. After everyone had left the house she got out of bed and made some lunch, but before she could even get some bread out she heard a knock on the door. She thought is was weird for someone to randomly come over on a monday afternoon. When she opened the door one of her friends were standing before her looking flustered.
"Max?" Melanie asked confused, Max should be in school right now.
"Melanie, jesus i was worried! Are you okay?" he asked barging in the house.
"I'm fine, what are you doing here?" Melanie asked following Max down the hall into her room.
"I just told you I was worried, you've been out of school for over a week." He said searching for something in the room.
"aha, i sent you like ten messages." Max said holding up Melanie's phone.
"Sorry I slept in and was just about to make some lunch." Melanie said wanting Max to leave, she just wanted to be alone.
"Perfect we can go out!" Max said with a smile.
"No Max I'm fine, thanks. Besides you should be in school." She said even though she did kind of want to go out, Melanie had been cooped up in the house for over a week.
"No, no were going out for lunch, and everyone thinks im sick anyways. Now get ready." He said walking out of the room. Melanie sighed but got ready anyways. She was ready to finally get out of the house but also was tired. But since Max was one of her best friends she obliged.
Melanie came out of her room and found Max on the couch watching tv, he turned around and looked at Melanie.
"Ready?" He asked.
"Yup." She replied
"Alright lets go." Max said with a smile leading them out the door and to his small black car.
Max drove them to one of Melanes favorite places to eat, In-'n-Out Burger. Melanie was smiling ear to ear that Max remembered how she always said this was her favorite place to eat whenever a group of them went to eat here.
Melanie ordered what she always did; american cheese burger with bacon and fries. Once she took a bite she made a sound that you make when you've taken a bite of heaven. Max looked over at her and laughed after he took a bite of his plain burger.
"What?" Melanie asked when she caught Max staring at her.
"You just look like the happiest girl ever when you bite into a cheese burger." Max said laughing a little.
"Thats 'cuz I am." Melanie said taking another bite. This time Max laughed out loud and Melanie just smiled and continued eating her delicious cheeseburger.
After they finished eating it was about 2 o'clock.
"So we have a few hours if you want to do something?" Max asked.
"Uh, I don't know. Do you have any ideas?" Melanie asked with no thoughts of what they could do.
"I may have an idea or two." Max said with a smirk as they pulled out of their parking spot.
They sat in silence as Melanie thought of where they could be going, then she noticed the route they were going; they were headed to the park.
"Why are we going to the park?" She asked, the only they could do there at their age was have a picnic and they just ate.
"Just Wait." Max said.
Max pulled into a parking spot and waited for Melanie to get out of the car by leaning on the hood.
"So what are we ding here?" Melanie asked but Max didnt answer, he just walked down a path and Melanie followed. She was sill confused but realized that Max wouldnt give her any answer so what else could she do but follow him.
Max walked down the path and hoped Melanie would follow him, he didnt want to turn around but he could hear someone walking behind him. Today would be the day that he told Melanie his true feelings for her. He had liked her for three years now, since freshman year when they met in band class.
He was going to take her to the best veiw in town, to the top of Boulder Park Mountain. Which, even though it was labeled as a mountain, is a really short hike. When they got there they would sit on some random table and admire the veiw, then he'd tell her.
They got to the top and Max led Melanie to a picnic table, they sat down on the table and put their feet on the bench.
"There better be a good reason you made me hike up a mountain." Melanie said sarcasticly but she looked at Max pretty seriously. He just smiled back at her becuase yes, it is a good reason.
"Am I a bad person for wanting to show the prettiest person ever the prettiest veiw ever?" He tried to say as confidentally as possible. As Melanie looked out at the veiw she blushed a little, Max had never complimented her like that.
"I guess not, it is a really nice veiw." She agreed.
Max moved his hand closer to Melanie's on the table and Melanie did the same. When Melanie did this Max took it as a sign that it was okay for him to hold her hand, so he did. So there they were, hlding hands and watching the city before them.
"So was there any other reason that you wanted to bring me up here?" Melanie asked.
"Actually no." Max said, sure he really liked Melanie but right now was perfect. He didnt want to say anything to end the peace or make her want to leave. He would just have to wait and ask her out another day.
