A Quick Treat

Emma's project was just a simple figure; it was the top half of a man. She was already nearly done when she started this class, and now she was putting in the final details before curing it. This means she would be able to paint tomorrow.

"Start cleaning up," Mrs. Smith's voice fills the classroom.

The other students start frantically putting their stuff away. She stands restless as she cleans up her area, throwing away newspaper and then washing her hands. Everyone stands motionless with their bags or the few things they carried waiting for the bell.

As it rings, Mrs. Smith calls out, "I'll see you all tomorrow. Have a nice day."

Emma hurries for the stairs as a crowd of people lingers behind her. Hallways flood once again as she slips into the girls' bathroom. Alice peers her head around the corner, realizing it was Emma. She was sitting, perched upon the bathroom sink; next to her was Evelynn. Alice must've asked her as well later on in the day.

"Finally," Alice proclaims sarcastically.

"Oh shut up," Emma chuckles at her. "Didn't know you were coming too."

"Yeah, I got a test, next class, I'm not prepared for whatsoever," Evelynn responds.

The second-floor bathroom is small, only having a few stalls. All the other bathrooms had up to five, which meant the majority of kids congregated in those.

"We probably shouldn't stay here," Evelynn states; even though seeming paranoid, it was a smart idea. It was easy for someone to just walk in and find them all sitting in there; three in a small bathroom would seem suspicious. If on the off chance Sophia walked in and saw them, they would be caught.

Sophia was one of those good kids in school. She followed the rules, always told someone when someone else wasn't doing what they were supposed to. Every school has to have one of those people. In this school there were multiple, they were all friends. Emma had the suspicion that they purposefully looked for kids to tell on too.

"Where should we go then?" Emma questions.

Down the stairs was a hallway that typically stayed empty. It was mainly students who walked down there. It was hidden from cameras, and quiet enough they, would be able to hear someone walking.

"Come on," Alice takes the lead. She checks the hallway for any teachers before walking out. Both of them casually follow behind her and head down the stairs. They take a left; Emma looks up and reads the black numbers, '102' above the door. It was another left, and then a right; they walk down the hall. A little further back was another flight of stairs and an exit.

Alice sits down in the corner, pulling out her phone. Emma slides down the wall, taking a seat next to her. Glancing over, she notices that she's reading messages. It wasn't any of her business, but she couldn't help noticing the change in her facial expressions as she reads. It was a mix of frustration and perhaps even slight confusion.

"We should go to that house after school," Alice states rather more than asks; there was that tinge of frustration in her voice.

"Alright," Emma says before falling into silence.

After a while, there was a loud grumble; it sounds like someone's stomach.

"Wanna go get food?" Evelynn asks, holding her stomach.

"Sure," Emma jumps up readily.

Alice didn't speak; it was odd for her to be so quiet. All she did is nod her head then stand up to follow behind. They walk out; nobody stopped them. Evelynn's car still had that new smell; it was cleaner than Ethan's car as well. It was a short drive to Tim Hortons, and inside they all order their food.

"I'll pay for you guys. Emma, you can go first," Evelynn steps aside to let her order. In a way, she was like the mom friend. She didn't mind driving around with them and occasionally paying for everyone's food.

"I'll have a Chocolate Cheesecake Donut," Emma tells the girl on the other side. "Please," she jumps to say before walking over. Looking around, she sees several other people are relaxing at tables. The others order, she didn't pay much attention to what they asked for she's too busy watching the TV.

She feels someone push into her shoulder gently, looking over it was Alice. "Hey," she says, she seems perfectly fine now.

Her face lights up slightly, "Hey, what's up? Everything alright?"

"Yeah," she brushes off her question and leans into her arm again playfully. "Oh hey, foods done." Alice had gotten a frozen lemonade with some Timbits.

Evelynn's food was sitting there as well; it looks like she had asked for a BLT and potato wedges along with an iced coffee. There was only one empty table left, as soon as they sit down, they begin digging into their food.

"How have you and Liam been doing?" Evelynn mumbles, her mouth full of food.

"Good. I think he's going to plan something special for us," Alice seems excited, but Emma could tell something was slightly off in her voice.

She nods and takes another bite of her BLT, chewing it quickly, then going to speak again, "I wish I could hang out with you guys, but I work after school today."

"Oh yeah, how's that going?" Emma asks her with genuine interest.

She has had a few jobs, but the last ones weren't to her liking. Sometimes she'd have to work with people who didn't particularly like her, and other times she just had terrible hours.
