"Just Listen to me, Bella" My voice was shaking as she began to carry her suit case towards the door. "Please, don't leave me" My voice trailed off as the door closed behind her, I felt my knees hit the ground as I began to weep like a child.
That day with tears obscuring her vision as she drove towards her mothers house a few towns away her car slid off the icy road. They say she died on impact as her vehicle connected with a large pine tree head on.
Her lifeless body now sat in a stark white coffin, dressed to impress, her cheeks were pale compared to her usual pink. As I approached the podium my hands shook, yet no tears brimmed my eyes. I placed under her neatly manicured hands a single red rose, the color her lips adorned almost every day.
...
I bounced nervously foot to foot as I stood outside the dark brown house, flowers in hand. My black rusty mustang parked just behind me running, the headlights lighting up the gravel driveway. Brisk wind nipped at my nose and I pushed a strand of untamed curls back into the gel mess atop my head. The hand-me-down suit I wore adorned a rather large stain from when my father wore it to a wedding and spilt wine in his lap. I hope no one notices.. I snapped out of my thoughts as I heard the creek of her front door begin to open. My breath hitched in my throat and my hold on the bouquet tightened as Bella made her way down the porch steps. Her father and mother walked out behind her but I paid them no mind as my eyes were fixcated on the young woman. She was a natural beauty, I knew this before I asked her to prom. But she always wore jeans and baggy t-shirts. But now she was drapped in a gorgeous red dress, it was simple yes, but she made it look like it belonged to a queen. Over her shoulders hung a silk shawl the color of the night sky. Her makeup was simple no color on her eyes, but oh her lips, the color of a red rose and the flush on her cheeks let me know she was nervous as well.
An awkward smile made its way on to her face and I fought to hide my blush as my heart fluttered. Without a word my hand shot out, the flowers drooping slightly at my movement, pedals fell onto the floor slowly. A sheepish smile over came my features and I internally slapped myself. Get ahold of yourself Danny.. A soft laugh escaped her lips and this time I did nothing to hide the red appearing on my face. She pushed her straight black hair behind one of her ears before taking the flowers in one of her dainty hands.
Her voice broke the silence "T-thank you".....
The gymnasium was dimly lit when we entered the doors. Cheesy gold and white decorations coated almost every wall and ceiling. Small round tables took up a portion of the room while the other served as the dance floor, music loudly played over the speakers.
We stood next to one another, awkwardly deciding on what to do first. We both eyed the table that was covered in small snacks and punch in giant bowls.I smiled softly before taking her hand in mine and leading the way. I could feel her tense at first, her hand stiff in mine but slowly her fingers entwined with mine. I didn't dare look at her for I know my face was full of childish enthusiasm.
We indulged our selves in the deserts and finger foods bringing our plates to an empty table in the corner of the room. She broke the silence once more apparently more brave than I. But once the talking started it didn't seem to end. Until we heard a voice boom saying the last slow dance was about to begin. My heart sank as I noticed how time had flown. Without second thought I stood, cutting her off as I held my hand out."Would you care to dance"? I asked with a shaky tone. I watched her blue eyes light up and her red lips turn into a heartwarming smile. Her hand reached for mine as she spoke:
"I'd love to".
