The Prosperity Trials

Chapter 1 : The Announcing (Devan)

"These are the countries for this decades Prosperity Trials." I heard the reporter start."These 6 countries will be assigned to send either a 16 male or female for the Trials." The announcer paused and I held my breath. I had been waiting for this time for all 16 years of my life. My mother was sent to the Prosperity Trials several years before I was born. She had life hard, and struggled sometimes, but never failed to make sure I was safe. She passed away a couple years ago, so me and my twin brother Andre had to move in with my Giagiá April.My father however was out of the picture. It made me hate him so much that he had left my mother. She was an amazing, kind, beautiful woman that deserved to be loved. I was about to punch something when I heard the reporter's vice float back into my ears. I knew it was possible- even if the chances were slim- for me to be chosen. I was a sixteen year old girl and I held my breath as the man said the first three countries. " The following countries are to be... France, male suitor, Brazil, male, and, Israel, male. As for the females" I held my breath. " They shall represent Russia, Japan, and our very own home country!" My stomach dropped. "Greece!" "No no no no no no." I whispered to myself. This can't be happening. I live in Greece! I was a 16 year old girl! I was panicking knowing that the country raffles were going to take place soon. To choose who would actually go to the Trials, the country would enter all the names of the eligible suitors and pick a random name. The "chosen one" would then have a month to say her goodbyes and prepare for the giant task ahead of them. They would then train for two months at a state-of-the-art facility where they would be prepared for the trials. My name among many others would definitely be entered.
