Chapter 3

We walked into Jazzy's back door and the rest of the night went by pretty normally. Nothing really noteworthy happened. At the end of the night i had to get a ride home with Shane because my mom had a church meeting. As soon as i got in the car Shane's mom said hi and asked me a whole load of different questions.

" Good to see you! How have you been?"

" Good thanks how ab---"

" How's school been going?"

" Good i guess. " i laughed. I couldn't jog my memory of last time i actually studied for any test.

" How's your sister doing?"

" She's good. As far as i know of."

Shane gave her a look. The kind that most kids give their parents instead of full on strangling them. At that her questions came to a halt. She turned on some 80s music and Shane turned around in the front seat to face me.

"Hey how's it going back there?" he laughed.

"Great i love twenty questions" i said whispering.

He reached back and grabbed my leg.

"Shane!" i giggled.

"Let go!"

"Nope. You can't make me." he stated smirking.

"You wanna bet?"

"Sure. How much are we betting?"

"Oh shuttup."

I reached forward and grabbed his arm.

"I'll let go when you let go" i teased.

He laughed and smiled the most adorable smile. I tried to hold on but he was too strong and he ripped my hand off.

" That's not fair" i said.

"Yeah it is."

Then he let go of my leg and we pulled up at my house. It was really icy outside so he told his mom he was going to help me up the driveway. We got out of the car and i slipped on the ice. My feet fell out from under my body and i crashed to the ground.

" Ashley!" Shane cracked up. Then he offered me his hand.

Meanwhile i felt incredibly awkward because i could feel his mom watching us.

" Come on let's go behind the garage." i said.

We walked to the garage where we were out of view of his mom. I looked into his blue eyes. They're the kind that you just lose yourself in. I feel incredible stupid saying this but if eyes were drugs his would be deadly.

"Well thanks for taking me home."

" No problem." he said. There went that smile again. He leaned in and kissed me again quickly. Then he pulled away and hugged me.

" I'll see ya." he said.

"Bye!" i couldn't stop smiling.

When i walked into the kitchen my dad was standing there. Some people have cool dads, ones that understand them. And then there's my dad. If he was alive a hundred and so years earlier i swear he could've been a slave driver.

" Who took you home?" my dad said.

"Just a friend." I said. My chest started pounding. I could feel the blood rushing to my face.

"What's their name?"

" Shane"

" Oh it's a boy?"

I wanted to say 'No dad. It's a girl. But i thought i better not.

"Yeah." i said instead.

" I don't think i met this 'Shane' before. Do you think I'll get a chance to meet him?"

"Sureeee"

I thought for sure he'd say something else. I was ready for a second round of twenty questions. But he just poured himself a cup of coffee and walked away. I never noticed before but when my dad walks it's almost like a soldier marching off to battle. Maybe that's why the day we had the earthquake i thought it was just my dad walking around. I had no clue whether he saw Shane and I kiss or not. The anxiety was killing me.

That night i layed in bed and thought about Shane. I thought about what i would say if he asked me out. Obviously i would want to say yes but i was sort of scared of relationships. There's a lot of respinsibility in them. I wasn't even quite sure how to be in a relationship. Oh well I'll worry about that later.

All that matters is the way he makes me feel. I smile like an complete idiot whenever i see him, but I don't care if i look crazy. We're all a little crazy anyway.
