CHAPTER 1: The Unexpected Surprise

Alex perspective:

Beep, beep, beep. I just woke up for school. Ugh!! Stupid School. I just had the worst winter break and now I have to go back to school. Life is really horrible. I just got ready, putting on a brown transparent butterfly t-shirt, a hoodie and really dark blue skinny jeans. I just put my hair in my pony tail when my mom said she had something to talk about and I needed to come out immediately, I guess today is going to start out really bad by the sound of my mom’s voice. I got out of the washroom and went downstairs. My mom and dad were sitting on the sofa and my brothers were eating breakfast. Like always my 12 year old brother is complaining that he needed a cell phone and by 8 year old brother saying he wants a new play station game. Things looked normal except my parents, they looked worried. I can see it in their faces, they were confused. I asked, “What´s wrong?” “We are going to England.” My father said. “What!” “I am sorry but we are kind of in a family problem and we need to go soon.” “What! I am in high school! I need to graduate here; this is my home and what about my friends! And when are we leaving! Can´t I stay with my friends?” “Look honey, I am sorry but we need to go tomorrow and we also got our tickets. It’s too late to change anything we leave tomorrow at 8 pm.” “Please I can stay with my friends. All of them live in the same house I will be safe, please I don´t want to go to England.” By now I started crying. My parents were thinking about it for a while and it was almost time to go to school. “Ok, I guess we can give the extra ticket to granddad he did say he wanted to go, but I don´t know about you staying here alone.” My parents were thinking hard I needed to say something to convince them fully but what? “I will be safe and I will get good grades either way and if I go to England my education would get messed up.” Now I was begging. But this seemed to convince them to let me stay. “Ok but only for your studies if we see you get one b we will bring you to England, do you get it?” “Yes! When will you guys be back?” I was too happy to care I am going to stay with my friends for who knows how long. “Well we were thinking of permanently staying there.” Now that´s even better. “What about graduation?” “We will come back for that so behave ok?” I was so excited I ran out the door and went to school excited to tell my friends the news and that´s when my life turned upside down.

Mason´s perspective:

I feel guilty going to the same school Alex is going to after telling her I died, but that was only for her own safety I don´t know how I will explain all this to her and what she will say. I am walking to school when I see her all happy talking about something I couldn´t hear. I go up behind her and call out her name, “Alex.” I am really nervous. She turns around and she just stood there I swear she just turned pale but that might just be my eyes. Then Alex said, “Ma ma... mason? Is that really you?” “Yeah. How are you?” What was I doing?! That’s when she started to tear up and looked a bit angry too and I was scared she might just run away. “I thought you died?! Why did you lie?! You know how long I cried?!” I didn´t know what to say. “Hey can I talk to you alone.” We went to the back of the school and sat on the bleachers. I was scared I didn’t know what to say. “Alex I know you´re mad at me but please let me explain everything.” She didn´t reply back and I didn´t expect her to. I kept talking. “The only reason I lied to you is because both you and I were in a big problem. My dad´s competition killed dad and were trying to kill me. I faked my death but now they don´t know who is running our company. The reason I lied to you was so if they did know you’re my friend then you would tell them I died and you wouldn’t be in danger too.” “Then why didn’t you tell me so I would know the situation? I would have lied to them.” She wasn’t angry at me but frustrated and sad. “Because if you told your friends there was a possibility that those investigators could have asked your friends too. I was scared you might get hurt so after everything calmed down I bought a ticket and flew here to tell you.” My voice was shaky and I was scared I might cry but I held back my tears and just stared at her straight in the eye. “You know how much you hurt me! I didn’t talk to my friends for two weeks!” She was really frustrated and she was trying to sound mad but I knew by looking in her eyes that she was glad that I was alive.” Then she hugged me and that’s when I knew that she forgives me.
