It’s quite ironic how there’s this one person everyone turns to
The girl with a constant smile
People go around thinking
“Oh what a wonderful life she has”
For some reason everyone is drawn to her
Telling her about their problems and miseries
Some tell their inner most thoughts, dreams and desires
She sits there patiently
Listening to every word
With a compassionate face
And soothing words
Giving the advice she thinks best
Yet no one really looks
Not classmates and sadly not even close friends
For her, school is nothing but a masquerade
Wearing a different kind of mask
Hiding anything bothering her
You’d think it annoys her
How no one seems to see the real her
Or how she has no one to talk to
There are times it does
But mostly she’s grateful
She never has to explain herself
Let people see her vulnerable side
She finds other’s problems distracting and helpful
Then one day, it all changed
She made a friend on the internet
For once she ignored the risks
He seemed like a nice guy
Quite like all the other guys she knew
Days and nights went by
Chats about any and everything
She didn’t know he was starting to break the wall
That she thought had been strong
Her mask was removed
It was like the Lois Lane
Finding out Superman’s identity
He could easily guess her dreams
What she actually wanted in life
He could do what no one else ever could
He was the only one who would not get fooled
By her Oscar winning act of happiness
Made her so scared and confused
There was no one in her life who could do this
Who understood her feelings, without her saying a word
She decided to build another wall
One no one could break
It stayed for a while, she dealt with her emotion like she did so far
Another few weeks past by
But once again she screwed up
Another wall broken
It frightened her so much
She decided to do what she’s the second best at
Pulling away and ignoring
She had done it before
Lost track of all the friends she lost this way
But right now her this was what her brain told her to do
No matter how much her heart yelled out her need for a friend to talk to
Sometimes she would re consider
But in the end
Her brain would Avada Kedavra her heart
Now it had begun
There was no going back
As another friend would get hurt
The last thing she wanted to do was make him upset
But he would get over it soon
She would hurt him eventually
After all, that’s what would happen to anyone who got too close to her
Better now than too late
And so it began
The continuous conversations that took place all day and till late at night
Decreased rapidly
Her answers became shorter and bitchier
His attempts of conversation were mostly futile
She slowly died inside with every bitchy move she made
And it just pained her more
When he said he didn’t want to lose her
Said he cared and loved her
Even if it was just as a friend
The risk of falling in love was too great
She didn’t want to be so reckless
Sometimes wished he was a jerk
Life would be easier then
But then again
Her life was anything but easy
Yet something would always pull her back
To the thing she was pulling away from
Reading old chats
Everything could somehow be connected
It was like a magnetic force
Not letting her go
Maybe it was time
To just this once
Say everything
Put her emotions out in the open
She was never one to take such big risks
No idea what caused this sudden change
Her insecurity annoyed her
So scared to let down the walls
To pour her heart out
Only to be betrayed yet again
Trust was a hard thing to come by
She prayed this wasn’t another mistake
Still not sure what she wanted
Confusion and doubt haunting every thought
Wishing she has never met him
Yet glad she did
She made two promises to herself
To not get attached
And to never let her brain overpower her heart
So now she’s given him a chance
Taken yet another risk
So far it’s going well
And the outcome should be good
But the ending is yet to come
