Chapter 2: Ria
"What are you staring at" Jason spat out coldly at me, "Nothing.." I muttered under my breath barely enough to hear. I focused back on writing the notes Mr. Smith gave us and continued to ignore Jason. "Okay! Since we have a test coming up, I'm going to put you in pairs to help you study and you are going to solve these 50 problems together." Mr. Smith said, the whole class started groaning. "Okay, okay! Shut up now, here are your partners: Maria and Sam, Kylie and Audrey, Everlyn and Brad, Rayna and Jason.." I froze and I swear my heart stopped. I wanted and didn't want to be Jasons partner for this Calculus thing. I miss our old friendship and memories.
Flashback: 2008
"Hahaha!! Jason stop it!" I ran around the playground running and screaming while Jason chased me with a lizard in his hands, "C'mon Ria your being silly! It's just a lizard, it does no harm what so ever you wuss!" Jason yelled chasing me. I tripped over the step that led you on to the slide, "Ouch! Cut it out!" I said seriously, Jason dropped the lizard in the sand and jogged over to me, "Are you ok?!" he asked looking over at my knee, "Yeah, I'm fine." Jason started laughing really hard, he help his stomach and fell to the ground. "What?'" I asked rolling my eyes, "Haha! Girl you be trippin" he said part laughing. I thought about that and started laughing as well. He helped me get up and we walked back to his house where our mothers and fathers were. I opened the front door and we walked in, "Rayna! Was Jason bothering you today?" Mrs. Richmen said, "Haha no, he wasn't atleast not today," I said laughing. My mother came in and kissed me on my forehead and smiled brightly.
I blinked again and came back to reality, "Miss. Del Marë?" Mr. Smith said looking at me weirdly, "Come on focus!" I nodded my head and looked back at the board. I still was thinking the only reason Jason and I were friends back in 6th grade and middle school was because of our parents. They grew up together and started hanging out when we moved to New York. The school bell rang snapping me out of my thoughts and I grabbed my books and started walking out. I felt a hand grabbing my wrist, I turned around and saw Jason, "We need to talk." he said. I gulped and followed him, "What?" I said curiously, "Well we obivously need to discuss our Calculus partner thing," he said. What the hell? Jason, for once cared about this project/group assignment? "Umm yeah um, so wanna meet after school at the library?" I asked, "Sure," Jason said. He walked away and slowly disappeared into the crowd.
After History class, was lunch, I found Caroline and we sat at our usual table until we had some guests arrive, "Hi, um Rayna right?" some girl said, I looked up and saw it was one of the girls from my Science Lab 101 classes. "Hey, yeah thats me" I said muttering shyly, "Oh well I'm Julia and this is my friend Rylee!" she said in a joyful tone, "Nice to meet you!" Caroline said smiling brightly. They both sat down and we chatted about what classes we were in and all that. Later the bell rang and I headed back to class, saying bye to all my new friends and Caroline of course. As I grabbed my books realizing I was a bit late for Mrs. Jaimison's math class, I quickly closed my locker and ran. As I was running, I collided into something, "What the hell? Ow!" I said loudly, "I'm so sorry Rayna" I recongized the voice and got back up quickly. "I don't want your help Liam," I spat out maybe a bit too rude, "Listen, Rayna, I'm sorry, I didn't want to go with Stella but she had a grudge against me, please try to understand." Liam said, I turned around facing him and I felt sorry for him, I missed my old best friend back, "What grudge?" I said quietly, "It's a long story," Liam said looking directly at the ground, "Well tell me tomorrow ok? I'll will come early to school and you can explain. I'm giving you a chance, Liam." I said sounding sad, "I promise I'll explain, just um, I'm sorry Rayna." he said. I nodded my head and walked to class realizing I was late.
I opened the door quietly and snuck through the back and made my way towards the second row. I was praying Mrs. Jaimison didn't notice I was gone, as she turned around and looked across the room I don't think she noticed me being gone. Thank god! I thought.
