I can remember everything. The faces as I opened my eyes for the first time. The lights, sounds, and the feeling of being touched by the doctors. Remembering my mother looking at me for the first time with love in her eyes. One thing I don't remember, is my father. I don't recall him being there when I was born. I have never asked either. Fearful that mother would get angry at my rudeness. I figured if she hasn't told me yet, then I guess I didn't need to know. It kind of bothers me though. Everytime I arrive at school, I see the other girls getting dropped off by their daddys. When I see that, I usually just stare at the ground and pretend not to see. THIS IS MY STORY.
"You had better eat, Handley." Mother sternly said as I rejected my egg."You won't get to eat for another six hours after this." I gobbled it down. I hate being hungry. It hurts my tummy. "Mother, do I have to go to school today?" I whined. "Yes dear. Why do you ask this every morning?" I didn't want to tell her that I get picked on everyday for being different and not having a daddy. So, I just blankly said,"I don't know. I just think it's boring." Mother looked at me warmheartedly "Honey, you ask me this every day. Is something going on that I need to know about?" I panicked. "No mam!" "You would tell me if something was wrong, right?" I wasn't going to tell her anything. At least not now. My mother worries about me too much.
