I hate fate

I look at you from another world

Though you are in this very room.

We are separated by much more than space and air.

For we are separated by that which does not yet exist-

A future of many tears.

Tears that could fill oceans.

It is fate's dirty trick.

And I will be gone before I will ever know you.

Or touch you.

Or love you.

And that is an inevitable tragedy.

One that darkens my heart with grief.

I catch myself searching the room for you even when I know you are not there.

Because one look at you lifts the hope from the caverns of my mind back to the front where it belongs.

A thousand syllables,

a hundred words,

A dozen phrases-

All prisoners in my throat.

Because I can't even say hello.

My heart has never raced for anyone

And my legs have never gone weak,

But something about you changes me down to my core,

Turning boldness into fear

And contentment into envy

And a crush into impassioned longing.

And I hate fate.
