Audition

Almost instantly I saw a pair of eyes peeking at mine.

"hello." said the strange electronic voice. "who are you?"

I cleared my throat nervously. "I am Stella Watser, a shifter wishing to train here."

"Do you have any proof? How do I know if you are who you say? What is your a drifter in disguise, hmm?"

I angrily pulled out all of my basic information. I hate it when people underestimate me. About 2 years ago I buried my basic information right here on campus. Not only was it for that i wouldn't have to carry it around, but that I knew someone would ask that.

"Actually if you wouldn't have jumped to conclusions, I would tell you that I have all of my basic information right here. Go on, check it. Birth certificates, school ID's , everything you'll need. If you're that suspicious, you can even check my eyes." The nerve of people. Thinking that I'm so stupid I wouldn't even bring information. I slid the papers underneath the door.

"mmhmm mmhmm. Before I let you in Miss.Watser, would you mind if i do check your eyes. That was certainly a good idea..." I can't believe it. He didn't think I was kidding.

"Check them all you want.", I said. "It's not like it will hurt me, I know who I am."

In a matter of seconds, a hypnotic, bright blue light scanned my eyes, leaving me a bit blinded for a couple of seconds.

"Well you certainly are Miss.Watser." The voice gave a little laugh at the end. Suddenly I heard at least five locks being unlocked. "Come in, come in..." The doors opened with a bang.

The strange voice I heard just a second ago happened to be a man. He looked quite peculiar. He had about chin length thick white hair, yet he wasn't old. He wore an over sized jacket as long as a trench coat, with a Red collar and cuffs that were too big for his hands, but the rest of the coat was purple. Underneath the coat was a white untucked dress shirt and loose black dress pants. On his feet were white middle shin length hiking boots.

"Hello." I said while looking around. From what I could tell the bottom floor looked like a cluttered mail room.Papers flying all over the place and people running around saying a hundred things at once. "And who might you be?"

"I am one of your teachers and headmasters" he said in a playful voice. "But my students just call me Aragon."

"oh really", I said with a smirk. "How do I know who you say you are?" You could be someone else? Maybe I should check your eyes?"

He giggled, "Oh please you didn't think I was serious did you? I do that to all of the newcomers to see their reaction. I must say, I'm very impressed with your self assurance, and you mentioning the eye check showed your wit. I would have forgotten about it, if you hadn't mentioned it. That might help you in the audition."

"Audition?" I thought I knew everything about this school. I never once heard about an audition. Maybe This school still holds some secrets after all...

"Yes, that is where I'm taking you right now. Nothing to worry about though. All it is, is a little shifting, showing us your skill, and a quick interview and then your done. Easy peasy."

I snapped. " "easy peasy"? I have been training for eight years. This school is the only future I have making this the biggest audition of my life. Doesn't sound "easy peasy" does it?"

Aragon wore a blank expression, "...well look at it this way, if you've been training for eight years you'll have nothing to worry about!"

I was dumbstruck, looking at that stupid smiley face he was making. I drew a heavy sigh, "let's just get this over with..."

"Thunk!" Another bulls-eye. That makes 5/5. Usually I would get 4/5 but, with these materials, making bulls-eyes are effortless. I had already done exceptional on the guns, and knives sections. I have some room to grow in close combat, but I'm feeling confident.

One of the other headmasters spoke. there was a total of five headmasters. "Good job. Now time for the shifting test. Here take one of these." he tossed me a key chain which looked like it was filled with glitter.

"Whats this?" I asked.

"It's something our science team came up with. If you eat it before you shift when you un-shift within the next twenty four hours, you'll have a white t-shirt and jeans on instead of, well you know."

See what I mean? Amazing. I should be at least ten times better with all of their materials and products.

"cool." I emptied the little jar of glitter into my mouth. It tasted like plants which, didn't taste very appealing, but it quickly dissolved.

Like a mentioned before I shift into a hawk. But what I forgot to tell you is that shifters usually look like the animals that they shift into. I'm not saying that as a bad thing, but as a logical thing. I'm 5'10 and very lean. I have hair the stops at the beginning of my rib cage. It's a light chestnut brown with blonde highlights all throughout it. For some reason though when I told them I could shift into a hawk they all looked surprised. If they think that's surprising though, wait 'till they see my take off.

I took about six or seven big steps behind me, then began to run. This has to be my best take off yet.I started running fast with my head tilted down like I always should. When I felt like I had enough momentum, I jumped. I tilted my head up to make myself go higher and faster.

The sensation is...weird. When you shift it's like you're being who you really are. It's like that feeling you get when you do something stupid, and you think everyone is going to tease you,but then they all laugh. So you laugh to.

Flying is probably the best part though. I know you're probably going to get mad at this but,I can't tell you about it. I don't want the secret out for people to ruin.

They built a little obstacle course for me, but it's obvious none of these headmasters can fly. I mainly just flew over everything.

So just to impress them, I did a couple of loop-de-loops, nose dives, weaved in and out of tree branches, etc. After about half an hour though one of the headmasters motioned me to come down.

We went back inside and they told me to sit outside while they made their decision. Earlier they had asked me basic questions. Maybe that's what's taking them so long. I begin to second guess my landing and flying abilities, when they tell me I can come in.

I looked over at Aragon. but he wasn't meeting my eyes. Something's not right here...

One of the headmasters starts talking.

"We thank you for wanting to be apart of our program Miss.Watser.",he begins.

"Although you have great talent, we are in no need for your services."

That's it. I stared blankly in the room, not knowing what to do. Feeling as if I was one hundred feet up in the air, and am now plummeting down. A silent tear falls down my cheek.

That's when Aragon gets up.
