Chapter 15 – I feel sick.
Alexa's POV
What, in all shades of hell, did I just do?
I kissed him. I kissed Beck. I didn't even mean to; I didn't even know I was going to. It just sort of – well – happened.
With a groan, I close my eyes and lean back against the front door, slapping myself in the forehead a few times.
Why. Am. I. Such. An. Idiot?
"What are you doing?" my mum asks, making me jump. I open my eyes to see her standing in the living room doorway, the amused smile on her face making me roll my eyes.
I hadn't heard the living room door open.
"Nothing," I mutter.
"Uh-huh," she replies, her amusement growing by the second.
Ugh. Why can't I have clueless parents? It would make my life so much easier.
"What?" I ask, narrowing my eyes at her and stepping away from the front door.
"Nothing," she copies me. I roll my eyes again and sigh, shaking my head as I walk past her and back into the living room.
Frustrating bloody woman.
Kneeling down by the table, I start packing the game of Monopoly away, blatantly ignoring the looks my parents are throwing my way. Nothing gets past them; it sucks.
"So," my dad starts, "should we be expecting him over more often, or...?" he trails off, snorting at my obvious discomfort.
"No," I reply, raising an eyebrow and pointing a finger back and forth between the pair of them. "No, you should not. Just stop, both of you."
"Stop what?" mum asks with a laugh, whilst dad just holds his hands up in mock surrender.
"Whatever this is," I answer, motioning between then two of them. "It's weird and I hate you."
They both laugh.
Ugh. Bloody parents.
Just as I'm about to close the box, I notice the chance card lying on the floor a little ways away from the table. Forcing back a blush, I reach over and pick it up.
I turn it over and can't help but snort a laugh; he had been telling the truth. Why am I so unlucky at Monopoly?
"I'm just saying," dad speaks up with a small shrug. "If the guy's willing to play Monopoly with you," I don't miss the emphasis, "then he's definitely a good 'un."
"I'm not that bad," I defend myself, rolling my eyes.
Not as bad as I used to be anyway.
"Whatever you say," mum laughs.
"Okay," I say, putting the lid back on the box and leaving it on the table. "You're both mean and I'm going to bed now."
"Okay, night Kiddo," my dad says, still seeming way too smug for my liking.
"Goodnight, thanks again for tonight," my mum says, giving me a quick hug as I walk past.
"Anytime," I reply, walking out of the room. The second I'm in the hallway I spin back around and re-enter, giving them both a serious look. "We're just friends," I tell them.
"Oh, we know," mum replies at the same time as dad just mutters a "Uh-huh."
Idiots, I think to myself, rolling my eyes and heading out of the room for real this time.
