CHAPTER I: Donald Davenport, Age 50

Mission Creek, CA – November 17, 2024

The night was just like any other Californian night... a fresh breeze seeping through the slightly cracked windows in houses nearby, the moon glistening in the sky, a boatload of stars standing proudly next to it. A soccer game was playing nearby, so you could hear a mixture of cheers and booing throughout the city. Of course, no game was complete without the shrieks of Principal Perry, everyone knew that.

However, Donald didn't come to the park for sports. As the "proudly famed tech mogul" leaned against a tree, he realized how great his life actually was. He was already over the hill in terms of age, though he wasn't willing to admit it, but he knew without a doubt that he had to have done something right in his life.

He looked at the sky, each star reminding him of all of the adventures he's had throughout his fifty years of existence, and how each of them come together to form what he has now. He's been grateful for everything he's accomplished, both through technology and through his personal life, but he's never really taken the time to comprehend it.

Of course there were some faults in the system, he was never the perfect parent. Yet, they seemed to always be okay. Donald knew that his kids always had a leader of a father who they could trust on, who they could get guidance from, who they could truly learn from. That's the father Donald was inspired to be. He wasn't looking for perfection, he was only looking for his kids to be better than he ever was... and boy, was that ever true in his life.

Although he felt old, he couldn't help but feel glad that he was actually aging well. Even though he was a little older than what he was, that doesn't mean he couldn't have an ego. He still had his nicely done hair, his non-existent tan, his billion dollar face, and he was proud of that. More than anyone could ever know... but that could never overcome the pride he has for his family. With being the age that he is, Donald knew that he was susceptible to the widespread disease known as the "grandparent's bug," but he wasn't quite sure on how hard it would affect him.

He remembered the phone call he and Adam had just a couple months ago...

"Dad, what's it like being a father?"

"Adam, it is the absolute greatest thing you can experience on earth. This may sound cheesy, but there really is nothing else better than seeing your children grow up in the ways they do. I'm so proud of the people you guys have become."

"There's something I need to tell you, Dad."

"What is it?"

"Are you and Mom ready to be grandparents?"

The love in Donald's heart grew to measures he thought were unimaginable. The thought of having a grandchild was just like having a child of your own, except now you can see how your children react to the same things you did a long, long time ago.

Minutes passed, and Donald still couldn't let go of the wide smile on his face. He couldn't understand how he felt the way he did, but he was so glad that he could. There was no scientific explanation to his knowledge... it was just unexplainable. He felt the same way for his grandson as he did his whole family. There was not a single one that he didn't love, even when some of his relationships weren't at the greatest of times.

-

An hour passed, and the hometown game was finally over. People were starting to go home, which gave Donald the cue of needing to do the same. His walk should take no more than a mere five minutes, but with all of the scenery and Californian vibes, he took a couple more seconds to admire everything that he has. Entering his mansion, he's greeted by the love of his life, Tasha.

"There you are, my handsome man. How was the park?"

"You should have been there. It was the most amazing feeling, especially with the moon and stars."

"You know, that's what happens when you take your eyes out of those screens."

"Come on Tasha, it's my 50th. Give me a break."

"That reminds me," Tasha said, holding a finger up, "I've got a little gift for a special someone."

Tasha went to the kitchen and came back with a tiny cake with the words "Happy Birthday Old Man" written in icing.

"Thanks... a lot." Donald grumbled.

"You're welcome honey. Now you can either eat it tonight or survive until tomorrow."

Donald let out a big groan, "I'm not that old, Tasha."

"I know, I just like picking on you."

"Well, in that case, I know that someone else is turning forty-nine in a couple months... who's old now?"

"Oh, Donald... you really shouldn't have said that. That means no cake for you."

"B-but..."

"Straight to bed!" Tasha exclaimed, hardly containing her laughter.

"Fine..."

And with that Donald went to bed, content as ever... well, as long as Tasha was happy.

Welcome to the first chapter of this little thing I made... it's going to be fun wrapping this whole book up. Lab Rats has always been apart of my life, and I'll remember it forever. I met so many people who shared the same passions and love for the show as I do. I'll never forget. However, good things must come to an end, eventually. With this being the Lab Rats premiere and finale month, I figured it would be the best time to do this.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the story! I'll see y'all next time.
