Chapter 1

*One year later*

"Congratulations class of 2012!" The crowd burst out into applauses and the sea of navy blue stood up tossing their caps in the air, cheering. I smiling out into the crowd of graduates. I looked over to my left to where Max's parents were seated. His mom, Mrs. Jillian Reed, was sitting right next to me politely clapping her hands with a slight smile on her face. Her hair pulled back into a slick back ponytail.

His dad, Mr. Christopher Reed, was right next to her but wasn't clapping. He had what looked like a proud look in his eyes from where I was sitting. His stocky build just fitting into the small navy auditorium chair.

I turned back to face the graduates and saw them starting to move going to talk to one another. I was to far up to see any particular people but I knew that amongst them was Mike, Derek, Max and Emily. I went to say to his parents that I was going to go down but when I turned they were gone already.

"Wow." I mutter under my breath before excusing myself past people who were standing around chatting with family. I knew his parents didn't like me but it always nice to say bye to someone even if you don't like them. Whatever.

When I finally pushed past the sea of families it was time to get through the next mob to find my friends. "Brooke." I heard my name being called somewhere to my right. When I turned to look I saw Ashley standing with Emily, Mike, Derek and Max. So maybe I don't have to go through the crowd.

"Congratulations you guys." I said going down the row of friends in the navy robes stopping at Max who wrapped and arm around my waist and pulled me to his side. "How does it feel to be done with school?"

"Ughh so good." Derek moaned. People passing by gave him strange glances. We just laughed at him.

"Maybe we should leave before people start to think your having sex with yourself." Ashley grabbed his hand and started to pull him toward the exit. We all followed after them out the door. Ashley, Emily, Derek and Mike all headed to Mike's car while I walked with Max to his car.

"You guys still coming to the graduation party later?" Emily asked.

"Yeah we might be a little late. We're have dinner with my parents." Max replied back to her before she got in the car and they drove off.

Before Max got into the car he pulled off his robe and tossed it in the backseat. He climbed into the car and pulled at his tie undoing it just a little bit. He started the car and we pulled out of the parking space heading to the line of waiting cars. "So I'm going to this dinner?" I asked with sigh.

"Yes why wouldn't you be coming?" Max questioned turning the car out onto the road.

"Well your parents hate me."

"They don't hate you."

"They refered to me as 'That slutty college girl' for the first month we were dating and whenever you got up and left a room them would just stare at me like I was ruining their lives."

We came to a red light and Max looked over at me. "Well you're not some slutty college girl. You're Brooklyn Grey. My girlfriend of almost a year." When the light changed to green and he had to focus back on the road he put his out stretched hand palm side up on the console between us and I placed my hand on top of his as he laced his fingers with mine. "They are like that because I didn't end up with one of the snobby, bitchy, pole up their ass girls they probably had for me." I laughed a bit. "Hey and to make it up to you, since your birthdays coming up in like three days and its our year anniversary, why don't I make us dinner that night?"

"Um you sure you want to try that again? You do remember last time?" About 2 months ago we were at our apartment and for some reason he decided to go and make chicken tenders and well, lets just say we got our new stove about a month ago. "Why don't we both cook together? So theres no more accidents."
