Silence was in the Resister's volunteer camp. Nearly everyone was asleep, and everyone that wasn't was guarding the place, and they were trained to be dead silent. It was indeed very quiet, until a pink hedgehog broke the silence in one of the rooms, who threw a pillow at her roommate.
"Tails, wake up! C'mon!"
Tails pulled his face from his covers for a solid two seconds before putting his head down again. "C'mon dude, get up!"
He still wouldn't get up. "If you don't get up, I'm getting the bucket again."
"Alright, alright, I'm getting up! Jerk."
"Would a jerk make you get up at 3 in the morning to vandalize Notre Dame?"
"Maybe"
"Hm. Would I be a jerk if we were gonna do that?"
"Probably."
Amy looked down with a disappointed look and replied, "Welp, there goes Plan A of what to do today, and I don't even have a Plan B. Hey, maybe we can hang out with Rouge!"
Tails looked at Amy and said, "Could we just stay in this room for ten minutes? Please? That's all I'm asking for."
"Ugh, FINE" Amy responded.
"Good. And stop being so loud, you'll wake up the entire base."
"It's not like we do anything in here," Amy protested, "I mean, we're trained to fight with our lives, for nearly a year, just to go to Paris as a 'responder' if Eggman tries to invade. He's a mastermind! I'm pretty sure he realizes that American, Canadian and British soldiers are here, it's basically the most safe place to be at!"
Tails grumbled, "That's what they said about Moscow. Russia fell under him! Russia, man! Y'know how many cool soviets there are! You know how many commies are trained there?"
"Tails, it's not the 60's."
"The point is, Russia fell under the Empire. What next? France? The U.S? England? Look, if he can bring down Russia, he can probably bring the whole world down. It could be any day that there's a robot army coming over that hill!" He said, pointing out the window, "And you're one of the soldiers France is depending on, so start acting like it!"
Amy hastily said, "T- Tails, calm down. I think the morning blues got you or something."
Tails checked his watch, "Is 3:30 AM considered morning?"
"Technically, yes, yes it is."
The two continued to talk as they got ready for the day, and walked outside the base. "Although you can't really call it a base," Amy pointed out as she walked with Tails, "You're not supposed to be outside a military base if you're a soldier. As long as we don't stay out for more than four hours, no one cares. It's kinda stupid on the governments' side, but it's more of a blessing for anyone else." The two continued to walk throughout the city, until they reached a little sitting area behind Notre Dame. This is where they mostly hung out at, usually accompanied by a few other friends, but since it was so early they were the only ones there. Tails was still having trouble keeping his eyes open from time to time. After watching the sunrise in silence for a while, Amy asked if he would like to go home. He responded, "No, Amy, I- I'm fine, really...." and then he drooped his head down, closing his eyes. Amy grabbed his hand and led him back to the base, "Well, you're not going to sleep at Notre Dame. C'mon buddy, let's get you home."
Amy walked on the dirty road that headed towards the base, and blushed at the sight of Tails holding her hand. She didn't want him to see it, so she always kept her face ahead of her. Soon, they got to the base, and approached the entrance. "Hey, Amy, Tails. Identification please?" They both held up their IDs, and the man scanned it with a bar scanner, then took them and looked at them through the sunlight. "Yep, everything seems to be in order. You're allowed to go in."
The two walked silently to their room. As soon as the door opened, Tails launched to his bed, putting his face to the pillow with, "Be quiet or go away."
Amy replied, "C'mon Tails, don't go to sleep! Stay awake. Please?"
"NEVER" Tails said.
"Dude, why are you so tired anyway? You're never like this, unless you..." Amy then looked as if she realized something and said angrily, "Did you do a mission last night without telling me, again?!"
"Maybe."
"Tails, why didn't you ask me to help? You could've been killed, and I could've never seen you again!"
Tails argued, "The reason I didn't tell you is that you would go as well, and you always blow our cover! I can do what I want to do, okay? You know I'll put my life on the line, but I'm not gonna put yours on as well." Amy suddenly fell silent. She never thought about that until now. He then said, "You're able to deal with loss, Amy. I'm not. You'd be able to deal with losing me. I wouldn't be able to lose you."
Amy quietly replied, "You're wrong. I wouldn't be able to lose you. Because I mean, you're my best friend, y'know?"
Tails hugged Amy and said, "You are too. You're like a sister to me."
"God, I wish this war never happened."
They hugged each other for what seemed like eternity, until they heard a Für Elise in the background. Tails immediately let go of Amy, looked around the room and found a device he made that ran with it's own generated internet, so he could talk to his friends in America. "Your ringtone is Beethoven? You're such a nerd," Amy said.
"It's Sonic!" He yelled excitingly, and he pressed the "Accept Call" button.
