It seemed like forever until we could get just the right cars for our task. Sonic and Silver rode with me while Riu and Rashid rode with Mephiles. Mephiles and I managed to convince the two brothers that I was the more cautious driver while Mephiles was the wild animal. It was quite the opposite, really. Sonic had a suspicious glare as Mephiles and I shared a devious smirk. We were riding like average people for a few minutes; just enjoying the view and talking. Mephiles and I managed to buy a walkie-talkie and the thing crackled. I pick it up and wait for Mephiles to say something.
"Hey, ready to get some lunch?" That was our code to start our wild driving. I smirk. "Yep. We're ready." It crackled again. "Alright." I put the walkie-talkie in a safe place. I look into the rear view mirror to see Silver and Sonic sharing confused faces. My smirk widens. "Shadow, what are you planning?" Sonic asked, his eyes narrowing in suspicion. "Oh... nothing." I change the shift. Silver noticed as he looks from my hand to my eyes. I press down on the gas. The steadily passing scenery soon became a blur as I raced down the highway. The two gave a yelp of surprise.
I heard the radio go off and Mephiles' laughter erupted from it. I laughed with him as I shifted the gears again and drifted around a corner, Mephiles following suit behind me. Sonic smacked my shoulder, earning a chuckle from me. "You dick!" He exclaimed. "Woah, Sonic. I never knew you had that kind of vocabulary." He groans and slides back against the chair. "I hate you so much right now." I paid no heed as I made another turn, narrowly dodging a small car. Horns honked all around us and tires screeched as well. Adrenaline ran through my veins. I haven't felt this way in ages.
The last time I felt like this was when... when... An off road trail caught my eye and I swerved into it, startling the two even more. All of this adrenaline. All of this energy. No. I have to stop. I have to stop before it's too late. I gradually slowed down and finally came to a halt in a clearing. I took deep, shaky breaths as I quickly exited the car. I walk over to a tree, my hands shaking as I leaned against it. My head started pounding and Sonic's concerned calls were warped. My vision became hazy and everything started bleeding into each other. A dull ringing was the only sound in my ears. My body was forced to turn towards someone.
I couldn't tell who it was and I couldn't even feel it's touch. Something was moving on it's... face? I could barely see. I couldn't hear. I couldn't feel. And after all this time, you kept me hidden away. It's time to show your true face. I'm getting tired of hiding! SHOW ME! SHOW WHO YOU TRULY ARE! You cannot hide forever. SHOW YOURSELF! NOW!!! I finally felt something warm on my shoulder. My vision started to clear up, the colors slowly bending back to their original areas. The dull ringing slowly dissipated, now being replaced with a familiar voice that was laced with concern.
I could finally see the figures in front of me. There was Mephiles, Silver, Riu, and Rashid. But where's Sonic? I felt an entire blanket of warmth across my body. I look down wearily, earning a head killing migraine. A blue figure laid against my chest. Sonic. My instincts snapped into place. I still felt that same fire burning in my chest. And if Sonic stayed like this for too long... the consequences will be dire. I place a hand on Sonic's shoulder before pushing him off of me. He starts, quickly standing up. The sudden movement gave me motion sickness but I held back the urge to empty the contents of my stomach.
I braced myself against the tree behind me and stood up slowly. My stomach flipped and I bend over, the bile burning in my throat. I saw Mephiles' shoes and soon felt him help me up. I lean against him as he carries me over to the car. I limped for a reason that I didn't know of. Nearly everyone flanked me as I made my way over to the car. Sonic gets in the front seat and starts the car. Mephiles puts me into the back and soon climbs in himself. Silver went with Riu and Rashid, and we were soon traveling on pavement. I groaned quietly as Mephiles was softly scratching my ear.
The two eventually switched and soon, Sonic was petting my head. My eyelids droop as I felt the grogginess of sleep reaching outwards. My eyes flutter slightly before the darkness consumed me.
My eyes open to a beautiful landscape; a field filled with flowers of exotic shapes and colors. The aroma of the flowers tickled my nose and I sniffed the air with ecstasy. The muscles in my jaw twitched as I smiled. I pick up a full, white rose. I twirled it between my fingers, the smile still on my face. Something pricked my finger, making me hiss. I look down at my hand to see blood trickling down my hand and at the thorn on the rose stem. The thorn started to warp and changed from a healthy green to a deadly black. The pure white turned blood red as the petals wilted.
I dropped it with a gasp and the entire field bursts into a green flame which was soon swallowed by the surrounding darkness. You thought you could escape? How wrong you are. What are you without me? A nobody! If you don't accept that this is who you truly are, i'll make you suffer a fate worse then Hell itself! Because you can't die. You are Death, the very embodiment of the entity mortals fear. And if you think that that blue nuisance will accept you after this, then you're dead wrong. You'll be alone forever... and no one will love you.
The menacing laugh echoed throughout this empty chamber. And with it, was my anguished scream.
