This was all too much for Lightning to take in.

Thomas had almost died the night before and the doctors had told Lightning they had to put him in life support or he would die.

All that Lightning had done last night with Cruz.

He wanted to cry.

He loved Thomas, if he died Lightning would never be able to live with himself.

*beep* *beep* *beep*

Lightning brushed his blond hair out of his face.

A tear fell from his eye.

He didn't want Thomas to die.

He loved him.

Although at the moment it didn't seem like it, he just wanted to hold Thomas close and tell him that he loved him and wanted to be with him forever.

Yet it wasn't that easy at the moment.

Lightning best friend Mater had drove in.

"How's he lookin'"
Lightning turned around to see his best friends concerned look.
"Not good, they had to put him in life support, he almost died last night and I was-"
"You were what buddy?"
"Nothing Mater, I just wasn't there with him"

Mater and Lightning were silent listening, all that could be heard was the beating of Thomas's heart.

"I saw you with Cruz yesterday"

Lightning gulped. Mater was his best friend but he didn't like cheaters. He had made that clear the first time they had played monopoly together. If Mater found out that he had done it with Cruz he would tell Thomas.

"Yeah, we went to the cinema"

"What did ya see?"

"Does it really matter what we saw, Mater?"

"Well yeah, I'm just curious"

"Fine" Lightning sighed. "We went to see the greatest showman"

"Wow if you were going to see that movie with anyone I thought it'd be Sally, you two had a real connection, you know before you left"

'Fuck' Lightning had forgotten all about Sally.

"So, hows Sally doing anyways"

"Oh she's fine, really misses you though"

"Did you tell her ... about me and Thomas?"

"No, I decided not to upset her, but you really want me to I'll tell her for ya buddy, unless you'd rather tell her yourself"

"Why would me going out with Thomas upset her?"

Mater snickered.

"Buddy, Lightning she was madly in love with you"

Lightning looked shocked, Sally, in love with him, he'd never guess.

"I need to see her"

Lighting sat up abruptly.

"I need to go back to radiator springs and tell her"

"Tell her what?"

"Everything I need to"

Radiator springs

"Where's Sally?"

Lightning was searching far and wide for Sally, she wasn't anywhere.

"Dusty, where is Sally"

Dusty didn't answer.

"Rusty?"

Silence

"Lightning" Kori finally spoke up.

"Sally died, not long after you left"

Lightning couldn't believe it.

"Why... why did no one tell me?"

"We didn't want to upset you, you're a big racing star this would throw you off your game you know"

"I don't care Rusty, Sally was my friend, and now she's dead and I didn't even get to say goodbye"

Silence

"How did she die?"

"Suicide"
