The year is 2004, yet, an alternate 2004. In 1995, Quebec voted to leave Canada completely. Taking this as an act of aggression to Canada, parliament voted to re-annex Quebec. The annexation went terribly wrong, when Quebec's government was taken over in a communist coup. Quebec militarized massively, and set its eyes on the Atlantic provinces of Canada, which it took with relative ease by pure force.

Quebec's pride ended soon after the campaign, however, as American and Canadian forces quickly mobilized and took the eastern provinces back with the help of guerrilla fighters, and pushed towards Montreal.

It wasn't over for the Atlantic Canadians though. After the war, a newly promoted five star general by the name of Ernest Rodney took control of all of Canada in a coup of his own. Knowing all to well about the dangers of militant dictators, Jeremy Carson, commander of the ALAS (Atlantic Liberation and Security) movement responsible for the liberation of the land Quebec took in the war, convinced Rodney and the occupying Canadian Army to withdraw from the Atlantic provinces under the premise that his army could take care of themselves. The Canadian forces left, and Carson took his opportunity, and promptly declared independence from Canada.

The newly made state (named Atlantium by Carson himself) started very roughly. As expected, the Canadian Army steam rolled through New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, depleting most of the ALAS forces.  Most of the soldiers survived however. They fell back to Prince Edward Island, to make their last stand.
