Holding back the tears in my eyes, I tried to block out all the sounds around me and shut down my memory. Deciding whether to end my life completely or to continue with my empty life, my whole life was spent locked up in a research laboratory because I'm special. I have powers in this world that shouldn't even be real or possible to possess.
It all started when I was one year old. My powers were so strong that every time a worker poked a needle in me for blood samples, I healed much quicker than normal humans. I used to believe I was human, just different. I also used to believe that being different was good, but that all changed as I grew older and my powers grew stronger—everyone feared me.
My parents left me when I was born, once they found out I was different. After I was born, they brought me to the laboratory. "Sigh. Why does it have to be me to deal with this pain? I'm glad no one else has to go through this, but I feel really lonely."
"Hey, what are you doing?" a voice asks, different from any I've heard before in the laboratory. "I'm swinging. Why?" I reply. "Because usually, girls stay inside this late at night," he says, treating me like a normal human girl.
"W-well, I'm not like other girls," I say, half-shyly, as if about to cry. "I can see that," he replies. "It seems you think you know me, but you don't. Now, if you'll excuse me, I must leave."
Crossing the street, I'm safely on the other end, but my follower isn't. He's in the middle of the road as a truck speeds towards him. I use my super speed and push him to the other end, saving him.
"Why would this boy want to help me anyway?" I wonder. He decides to break into the truck, trying to help me. Darkness fills my eyes, and it seems I can't stay awake anymore.
"Why did this have to happen to me after I decided to live my life as a normal human?"
Suddenly, large hands grip around my ankles, pulling me out of darkness. Lights shine, and I see a beautiful woman with light sea-blue eyes and chocolate brown hair welcoming me to the family. "Hello, my little princess, welcome to the family," she says happily.
"Gaa gaa goo goo!" I repeat. "Wait, what? I thought I was dead, and now I'm in a beautiful woman's arms. Who says I'm part of her family? Plus, I'm a baby!?"
"What should we name her?" says a regular human guy's voice. "How about Yuki Cross?" she suggests. "Yuki means tender, loving, caring princess," I realize.
So this is what love looks like.
