Tedros had plenty of issues on his plate. He lived alone in a old grave yard house, he was stared at whenever he did 'weirdo' things, sometimes he stuttered when he spoke, and worst of all, he was cursed. Nobody ever bothered the weird kid like him or at least most people didn't bother with him. There were only two people who dealt with him, his best friends Agatha and Sophie. Agatha hung out with him because they were neighbors and she was also a weird kid, Sophie hung out with him because Agatha was her friend as well plus Sophie wanted to 'talk to the cute boy' which made Tedros nervous because he did not find himself cute at all. His blond hair was often a mess and usually looked like it was haphazardly cut, his skin was really pale from staying inside so that people wouldn't stare at him, and his blue eyes would barely glow in the dark with his pupils were like cat eye silts. Neither knew about his curse which surprised him because Agatha lived next door and hadn't heard anything.
Tedros peeked open his window. The sunlight streamed through the cracks and he could see Sophie standing on Agatha's porch. Where they going out for a morning walk? They better not come over because it wasn't a good day for him. He spotted Agatha coming out and pointed towards his house. Oh no. Oh no they were coming over.
Tedros pulled his curtains closed and hopped off of the stoll he was standing on. Just as he got to the door a knock came from the otherside "Teddy? Are you awake?" Sophie called.
He pressed his back to the door "G- g- go away! I'm not f- f- feeling good today!" he answered.
There was a huff "Tedros we know you're lying, its been a year since you've turned old enough. Why would you get taken now?" Agatha asked.
Tedros fished his brain for an answer yet he couldn't think of any. He never worked well under stress. The cursed boy slumped in defeat as he peeked open the door "N- n- nowhere with too many p- p- people to stare at us, r- r- right?" he asked meekly.
Sophie's face lit up "Yes, absolutely," she replied.
The three sat at the lake shore. Tedros felt calmer away from people, he never liked the harsh stares that everyone in town gave him. Ever since he showed up when he was a few months old, the people of Galavdon never understood how he came. When he turned nine, he was kicked out of the orphanage for causing too much trouble despite never doing anything. Agatha's mom had allowed him to stay in the house next door to theirs since he was uncomfortable around people. Sometimes he was glad for having friends like Sophie and Agatha even if they did bickered a lot. Which they were currently staring at him, oh he hadn't been listening to them at all. Tedros dropped his flower that he was picking the petals off "I don't really care," he replied.
Agatha looked at Sophie "Told you he wasn't listening," she said.
Tedros flushed a soft pink "That's not t- t- true! I w- w- was listening!" he squeaked at the black haired girl.
Agatha looked at him "Tell me what were we talking about?"
"The sch- sch- school, you two always argue a- a- about it!"
Agatha blinked in surprise. Tedros felt shocked, he had gotten it right. The blond boy smugly smiled at her.
Agatha huffed and looked away "Still, its a stupid story that nobody should believe in," she said.
Sophie gently pushed Agatha's shoulder "You know its true, Tedros may have seen it once! Isn't that right Teddy?" the blonde asked.
Tedros felt his cheeks grow hot again "I- I- I don't know! Even if I d- d- did, I wouldn't remember s- s- seeing it," he countered.
"But if you ever did see you would tell us what it looked like?"
"N- n- no! I al- al- already get weird looks from everyone in town, wh- wh- why would I ever tell anyone I've seen that cursed sch- sch- school!"
Sophie teased a bit of her hair "Maybe so that I can know what it looks like before I go," she said.
Tedros and Agatha didn't say a word. Sophie always talked about being taken and going to school for good. Agatha looked at Sophie "So if you get taken, what happens to us?" she asked.
Sophie looked concerned "Well I'm sure one of you will be taken as well, you are my friends after all," she replied.
Tedros shook his head and stood "I'm l- l- leaving," he said, dusting his pants off.
The two girls stood as well. The sun had gotten lower which meant they had head home soon. They had families to go back to after all and their parents would blame him if they both went missing while alone with him.
Tedros trudged up the steps of his squeaky porch. He waved at Agatha from his porch "Hopefully I see you tomorrow!" he called.
Agatha probably rolled her eyes and went inside. He lied, nobody would be seeing him after tonight. If the idea worked correctly, by tonight he would be in the place beyond the woods.
Tedros pulled his backpack out from his closet and dumped the contents onto the floor which was just old homework and a school book. He went under his bed and took out a thick black bound book. It was from the bookshop and it had every fairy tale in it. The owner had given it to him as one of the few adults who like the strange boy. Tedros worked part time at the bookshop, hopefully planning to become it next owner one day. Tonight changed all that. Tedros hugged the book then stuffed it into his bag.
Jerking the draw open the blond took out a small silver locket. It was one of two things that came with him when he arrived along with a note about his name, birthday, and asking for someone to care for him. The locket was special, it had magic that showed a picture of his parents. A small mousy faced woman with brown hair and a strong stocky man with blond hair. The woman had a little baby that didn't look very human at all. It was small with a tiny face and the baby was playing with the mom's hair. Tedros loved that locket with his life. He would die if he lost it or had it stolen.
Tedros pulled the backpack on after filling it with more supplies for his journey. Just as he opened the window Tedros saw someone else running towards two figures. That couldn't be... It was Agatha! She was going after Sophie and the shadow figure. Tedros hopped out of the window and took chase.
He watched as the flames rose and he jumped just as it got higher than he hoped. This was not the plan at all.
The three screamed as they fell through an ever expanding darkness. Sophie and Agatha argued as Tedros fell on his back "Ouch..."
