In just a few hours, a shuttle is going to be docking up here. I was told 4 days ago that a young girl named Lexie was going to be sharing my room with me. She didn't have to hear about her being so special that she was going to be the only girl here. I am finally letting someone into my room for the first time in 7 years. My room will become Our room. The lockers won't be half empty and the nighttime viewings of former homes can be a little less lonely. I can dress her up in my old uniforms and we can play together. We can pretend to be on a super fast ship and sing songs while taking off. We can etch drawings of Earth and home and whatever we want on the walls so that we won't need the posters of celebrities or teen boy bands. We can be the best students at Battle School and fight together in the battle room. She can have a big sister that she never got to have. And most importantly, she doesn't have to be alone. I don't know what she's like, what she wants to become, or if she will like me. But she is my ray of hope. She might be the family I never had.
