You have heard about those old scary sea stories that captains have told about all their adventures. Whereas could have involved a monster or a wreck or things seen that can’t be classified. Well, those stories can be hard to believe, trust me I know, but sometimes they can be for your own good. If you’re reading this I’m glad you’re taking interest in something you have no clue about.
(Chloe's POV)
“Chloe, wake up, we’re here!” My mom said in a sweet voice that was obviously trying to get me in the right mood.
“Hum? Ah no, sun.” I muttered as I pulled the blanket back over my eyes.
“Come on, you’re going to love where we’re staying.”
As you can probably guess we are on a summer family vacation. To where you ask? To the beautiful Outer Banks of North Carolina. Well, I’m sure it is beautiful but I wouldn’t know because I was asleep the entire drive here.
“Oh wow this place is huge!” I heard my younger brother say in awe.
With that in mind, I decided to take a peek at my surroundings.
What I was looking at was a huge beautiful classic white house that looked like it was built in the late 1900’s. It looked well maintained and managed, but something about it made it seem like it had been through a lot of hard times. I could see it through the paint where old coverings have chipped that this just wasn’t your ordinary beach house. I don’t know why it took me this long to realize, but attached to the house was a very tall thing.....
A LIGHTHOUSE!
The lighthouse had black stripes on a white background, (unless you want to be stubborn and say it was white on black), anyways it was very cool. I recognized it because we studied it a little bit in history class.
“Welcome to Bodie Island Lighthouse!” My dad said as he saw me get out of the car.
“How did you get this?” I asked in disbelief. It was a tourist attraction, I’m sure they just don’t let random people have sleepovers in a historic monument. Or do they?
“They were going to have to do some last-minuet construction to the place so the company decided to make the house a residential place while they work on it. And because it is my company we get to stay here first!” He exclaimed proudly
Yes, my dad was a contractor. I guess you could say I liked it if it meant getting cool vacations.
“First?”
“Yep, since the last family in 1902.”
“1902?”
“Yea there was this whole ‘Unsolved Mystery’ talk about why they left. Some people even say they might have been killed or died of sickness, but they just seemed to disappear”
Oh that’s just good to know. Another family who lived in the same house as you are staying in for vacation has an unsolved past to them. It has pretty much been a century since someone last stayed in this house and who knows what could go on. I mean the family disappeared. There has to be a story behind this and I want to know about it before I fall asleep. Which I probably won’t so it’s a good thing I did in the car.
“Yes an unsolved mystery indeed.” An old voice said behind me.
I turned around to see who it belonged to. It was a tall man who had had short grey hair and a beard and a tan face with blue-grey eyes that sparkled with mystery and knowledge but had a scary look to them.
“Name’s Greg.” He said and held out his hand for my father to shake it.
“Jim.” He said returning the shake
“I’m the workman around here; if you need anything give me a call, I’ll be in that house over there.” He said pointing in the direction of a small shack looking house with a porch.
“OK, thank you.” Replied my dad.
With that Greg turned and walked back to his little house.
“Chloe, come get your bags!” I heard my mom shout.
“Coming!” I said slowly putting my foot back to turn, but something caught my eye. It was Greg’s eye and it totally sent me a nasty look and quickly looked away. I was still frozen as a saw him walk into his house and locked the door behind him.
