10 Months after the events of Operation: SIGINTOnce people started getting out of their seats, it became the time to get to work as my headphones clicked when I put them away, proceeding to grab my bags and stepping off the plane.
"Contact should be just outside the airport." I said to myself as I zipped up my hoodie, following the other passengers through customs while listening to the sound of the PA system and conversations between weary passerbys.
I couldn't help but smile as I stepped out of the doors of the airport and was greeted by a 6'2 man wearing a suit. "Buna dimineata." He said in a rich voice as he took my hand.
"It's good to have you here, Mr. Sandoval. How was your flight from Italy?" The man said as a man in dark sunglasses staring at us.
My contact was sure to notice it also, as he lead me into a cafe where we disappeared into the crowd.
"Good morning, sir. I'd love to stay here for a while, only if we don't have to talk credits. My name's Reagan." I said with a smile as I shook his hand.
Unwittingly, I ended up taking note of the camera in the corner."The pleasure is mine. I'm Christian. Your mother told us you were coming. She checked you into a nearby hotel." I smiled, knowing that my mother's in on the investigation, likely to be the one running the show come to think of it.
"I'm sorry but could you jot down the name for me?" I asked as the man I now know as Christian, checked his phone.
With a nod, I heard the click of a pen, gazing out the window just to make sure we weren't being watched. "Here it is. If you'll excuse me, I have a meeting to attend. I look forward to seeing you again, Reagan."
With him gone and the note telling me the name of the hotel and the name of my contact who'll be waiting for me, there was one thing left to do as I left the cafe.
"touched down in Italy a little while ago sorry I didn't text you"
I texted to my boyfriend, Manuel."its k, be safe and enjoy your trip 😘"
My smile disappeared as I got another text from a blocked number, almost as soon as I finished reading his.
"Remember your mission. Have you made contact?" The message asked me.
I sighed and chuckled, wondering what mom is doing in some foreign embassy while I sat in the backseat of a taxi... waiting till I get to look her in the eye and tell her about how I already snatched up a G.I. salary, just like Ryan... and yet I just brushed my hair out of my face before replying.
"I'm in position. Ready to proceed." I sighed as I put my phone in my pocket, setting my eyes on the innocent men, women and children of Luxembourg who have no idea who I am, not knowing what I'm doing here.
Exactly how it needs to be, apparently. "You can do this, Dan. Just don't freeze."
