Dark Love
Mira’s legs fought hard against her as they ran down the hall. Her lungs complained louder as she forced them to inhale and exhale harder and harder. Sweat fell from her brow landing on her shoulder. ‘Faster! Faster!’ She ordered herself. It was up ahead; she just had to get there. ‘Please don’t be too late, please!’ The sound of her shoes pounding on the stone floor came to a stop as she reached the door. Her heart was now pounding in her ears. Not just from her running, but from fear as well. Why was she so scared? She needed to open this door. She needed to save him! But who was him? Which one did she need to save? For some reason she felt the need to protect more than just one, more than just him. Two different sides, two conflicting paths. Raising a shacking hand she gripped the door handle and flung the wooden door open. A brief glimpse of long hair, a strong chest, and a hand out stretched for hers. Tears stung at Mira’s eyes as she through her body towards his. But she had been too late.
Flying straight up in bed Mira gasped for air. ‘A nightmare, it had only been a nightmare’. She tried to convince herself that it wasn’t real, but part of her knew she was only lying. Although the dream had been slightly twisted, it was just an exaggerated version of the truth.
Ever since she returned from the duelist kingdom tournament she had been having nightmares. Her interactions with Yugi Moto and their friends had left her slightly shaken. So many new paths had opened there way for her. She knew she was only going to get closer to the group as she chose which path to follow. Mira reached into her bedside table and pulled out her Millennium bracelet. Slipping it on her wrist she padded her way out of her room and down the hall. She needed to go see him, needed to talk to him.
Her father’s room was down the hall and to the right of her own room. Out side his bedroom door was his bodyguard. The man had refused to go far ever since the attack. Hearing her approach the guard turned to her, on alert but slightly more relaxed realizing she wasn’t a threat.
”Ms. Pegasus you should be asleep,” he stated to her. Mira gave him a tired smile and shook her head.
”No that’s alright. I need to speak with my father,” she told him. She knew he would be awake. Even with as late as it was he hadn’t been sleeping well lately, even if she hadn’t spoken to him much. It was a horrible thing to admit, she was his biological daughter, the only living family that he had left. But she just couldn’t bring herself to face him.
Her father’s guard slowly opened the door behind him to check to see if his master was awake, and able to talk. Discovering he was the guard stepped aside to allow Mira to enter. Taking slow, cautious steps, Mira entered her father’s room and approached his bed. She shuddered slightly as her eyes landed on his body. Half of his face was hidden behind the bandages. The side she could see was pale, thinner, and tired looking. His uncovered eye landed on her and his mouth turned up slightly in a smile.
”My daughter, you have finally come to see me,” his voice was strained and tired but you could hear the happiness underneath it. Mira did her best to smile and make it genuine. Pegasus moved his hand to reach out for her as she took a seat in the chair beside his bed. Slowly she reached out to grasp his hand and hold it with her own.
”What brings you here so late at night?” he asked her. Not that he was disappointed, in all honestly he was so over joined if he could he would danced. Mira looked down, trying to hide the sadness that was in her eyes. Her heart was over burdened with guilt.
”I felt the need to talk to you. About what happened,” her voice started to drift. Pegasus studied his daughter. Even though he hadn’t found out about her till a good 10 years after she was born, he still could tell when she was more than just upset. His beloved Cecilia had hidden her pregnancy from him while he had been away on a terribly long business trip. When he returned Cecelia was bed ridden with disease and she died before she could tell him she had birthed a baby girl and sent her to live with friends. Ten years later he had found her note to him, confessing everything. She had been so scared that he was not yet ready for a child that she had sent her beloved daughter away. Overcome with grief Pegasus rushed to his daughter’s side, determined to love and protect her the way he should have protected his wife.
”My daughter, what ever is ailing you let it go. Your pretty young mind need not worry about anything,” he whispered to her. Mira’s head whipped up to look at her father. Not worry? How could he say that? Did he not understand at all what she was going through?
”How can you say that? After what happened?! I was right there! I could have…I should have…” her voice drifted and she looked down again. Though it was true her and Pegasus weren’t close. She had lived with him every day for the last eight years ever since he had found her. She had been living in Egypt with friends of her mothers. All she owned at the time was a note and a picture of her birth parents. When her father arrived she had been anger, and hateful towards him. For the longest time she hated him, wanting nothing to do with him. But over time, as she slowly got to know him better, Mira came to slowly understand the man that fathered her. Now that being said that didn’t mean they were exactly best friends. There was still a lot about him that she couldn’t stand, even hated still. But he was her father, and he was the only family that she had. She could say what ever she wanted about her father, but any one else say anything bad about him, and she will kick your ass.
Pegasus offered his daughter a slight smile. “There was nothing you could have done. What happened was meant to happen,” his lighthearted tone became serious.
”And besides, that boy, was more powerful than either of us could have comprehended. And he would have easily over powered you”. Mira felt her temper start to boil and she opened her mouth to argue back but Pegasus interrupted her.
”You are strong Mira, but not strong enough to fight him. He knows you Mira, I’m not sure how, but he does.” Pegasus told her. Mira calmed down but she starred intently at her father, hanging onto his every word. Pegasus inhaled deeply, slowly exhaling, before he once again addressed his daughter.
”We spoke briefly before you had come into the room. He told me something; something both interesting, and terrifying.”
