The empty chair mocked me from the corner of the room, reminding me of who once slept so peacefully upon it. I glared at the chair before hastily turning my back to it, trying to focus on the television. A familiar theme tune blasted through the speakers, causing rage to fill within me. I angrily turned the television off, slamming the remote down. How DARE it play her favorite show. Glancing at the clock, I decided to go to bed, and began to make my way towards the bedroom. As I did so, I stopped in the hallway full of her photos. I gazed at my particular favorite, stroking it lightly with my index finger. I'd do anything to have her back.

Weeks passed and I soon found myself trapped in a world of depression and alcohol. I hated myself for letting her storm out of the house that night. I hated myself for saying the things I did. I hated myself for not treating her how she deserved. I drank until I was numb of any emotion, blocking my thoughts out and replacing them with drunken prattle. Soon enough, the thoughts returned. I desperately ran to the kitchen, only to find a mountain of empty bottles and cans. My mind flooded with memories of that night, despite my best attempts to block them out. Suddenly, I saw her pale, tear-stained face. My last image of her.

Determined to rid myself of these torturous images, I left the house in a hurry, desperate to find her. I planned out the apology in my head, hoping she hadn't found someone new. Hoping she'd take me back. I walked for what seemed like hours, letting my feet lead the way, completely unaware of where I was going. Soon, I was met with a sea of trees in which I felt a strong urge to venture into and so I quickly found the entrance. A few steps in, I stopped at a forked path. One way continued on the trail while another was roped off with a sign warning visitors they could easily get lost when walking this path. I was strangely drawn to the fenced path and swiftly jumped the rope. I trekked through the tangled trunks and muddy banks, growing tired. Just as I was about to give up hope and turn back, I spotted a familiar figure in the distance. I began to quicken my pace and as I got closer, my excitement grew. It was her. I ran to her, taking her in my arms and apologizing with all I had. I picked her up and vowed to never let her go again. I found my way out of the forest and the two of us returned home. I could be happy once more.

A week later, I woke to a firm knock on my door. As I sat up in bed, I glanced at my love, smiling at her peaceful expression while she slept beside me. I stumbled to the door, still half asleep, only to find two men in uniform. They flashed a badge that meant nothing to me in such a state and insisted that they search the house. Suddenly, I put two and two together, now wide awake. As the men searched the front room, I darted to the kitchen and grabbed a meat cleaver. I heard the stairs creaking loudly and my pulse began to quicken, fearing for her. I crept up behind the men, listening to their mumbles. They soon made their way to the bedroom, our bedroom. A gasp erupted from behind the door, forcing me to take action. I sank my cleaver into the first man's skull with power I didn't know I had. The second man began to scream, but by then I had dislodged my weapon and quickly silenced him with a blow to the neck.

I stared at her, still resting peacefully in the bed. I laid my hand on her stone cold forehead. I'd do anything to have her back.
