"What's his problem?"
I open my eyes and find my nephew and his best friend, that wasn't Torin, standing next to him. I groan as I pull myself up, getting a little lightheaded as the blood rushed back down to my feet.
"He does that a lot, Sarah. Helps him think better. We've been over this," Kaiden said, a tint of sass in his words. I chuckled at this and looked in their direction, Damari soon appearing behind them. The raven haired boy scanned the room, locking eyes with me. He reminded me of Torin just now, and my heart ached. It's been over four months since I've heard from him, and to say that I was worried about him was an understatement. I know what I said to him was harsh, but he should've told me about it before hand. But then again, I know how hard it is to tell someone something knowing how they'd react. Especially when you two aren't even together in the first place. The silence that remained afterwards was driving me nuts, so I've decided to break it.
"Was there something you needed from me?"
"Oh, right. Sorry Uncle. I just wanted to know if you've seen Torin around recently?" Asked Kaiden, his voice full of concern. I raised my eyebrows in slight confusion, eyebrows furrowed. If I hadn't seen him, I would expect that his friends had. They were close, after all.
"No, I haven't. Not since a couple months ago. Why?" I asked, getting up from my bed despite the warnings I've just been given by the group in front of me. The world around me spun, but I remained standing, worry taking over everything else at the moment.
"He went missing a few days ago, uncle. I don't know where he is," Kaiden replied, silent tears running down his glistened cheeks. I grab my car keys and head out the door.
"Well, let's go and find him," I offered, earning a scoff from both Damari and Sarah. Why the girl was here I had no idea. From what I understood, nobody in the friend group besides Kaiden knew who the hell she was. Damari glared down at her, as if there was something between them that happened and Kaiden didn't know about yet.
"Sarah, don't start," the blonde raven haired male warned. She didn't bother flinching, as she had glared right back up at him, Kaiden too lost in his mind to notice anything that was happening. That's when I had realized that Damari had come in after Kaiden did, confirming that their relationship was on the rocks because of this girl.
"Please, Damari. We both know what went on that night at the party," she snickered. I raised an eyebrow at the both of them as they both began to argue, making me sigh.
"LISTEN!" I bellowed, startling them all. Kaiden looked up at me with wide eyes, watching me as I pinch the bridge of my nose. It was silent now, the world coming to a painfully slow stop. The silence carried on for a few moments before I decided to speak again, crossing my arms against my chest as I looked at them all.
"Look, Ms Romerez. I don't know what's happening between you two, but threatening another student could get you expelled, so don't let me hear it come from your mouth again, yes?" I said, watching as she paled. I then nodded, continuing.
"Wonderful. Now, as the matter at hand doesn't concern you, I suggest that you leave my sight at once before I lash out at you and get my ass in trouble for your own dumb self. Go on, then. Take your short skirt and unnecessary items with you," I spat. It took a moment before she finally left without a word, the other two gaping at me. I turned towards Damari.
"As for you, sir. I have no business in knowing about what happened between you and Sarah, but I know that it has hurt your relationship between you and my nephew. I suggest that when the next time you two are alone, that you would fix it. And do it right, as I hate seeing this side of things. Understand?" I added, looking at both of him. They both nodded, entwining their hands together. I almost smile at that.
Almost.
"Good. Now that that's out of the way, what's this I hear about Torin going missing?"
????
Two weeks go by and we found nothing about him. We tried calling, but he wouldn't answer, not even when Kaiden called. We tried everything after that. Threatening to expel him if he didn't return, going to his house, trying his phone multiple times only to learn that it was turned off. The only option we had left was to go to the police, and Kaiden didn't like the idea.
"No! I don't want him running off again!" he said, Damari pacing the room. We were currently sitting in Kaiden's room, which was a mess. Papers, books, dishes, and clothing were thrown everywhere in a fit of rage. Some plates were broken, but in bags. The trash sat near the door, waiting to reach the dumpster. The smell didn't bother us, as we weren't focused so much on it.
"Kaiden, we don't have a choice, hun. If we have any chance of finding him, we have to go to the police. They are our only hope now," Damari said, sitting down onto the bed next to his boyfriend. I gave them a small smile to them from the small spot on the floor, watching share a quick kiss between each other before going back on topic. Just then a question jumped into my head.
"Hey, Kaiden? What did you mean by you don't want him running off again? Did he run off before?" I whispered, watching as Kaiden went pale and Damari grew silent.
"Erm, well ..." he started, but I had cut him off.
"Please don't tell me that it's something he has to tell me himself. We all know that he won't," I snapped. I immediately felt guilty when I saw Kaiden flinch, Damari looking away to prevent himself from glaring at me, occupying himself with Kaiden's mood.
"Okay, you're right. Torin, he ... he found himself in some bad situations as a kid, getting into things and places he shouldn't be in. One thing was his mother, who used to ... who still abuses him for reasons I can't say. He ran away multiple times, so he found this little-ah! That's where he is!" he said, keeping himself from jumping off the bed. Damari's eyes widened at the realization, grinning.
"Maybe we don't need the police after all," he said, helping the heavily pregnant boy to his feet. I stood up as well, looking between them with a raised eyebrow.
"We'll explain on the way," Kaiden said, grabbing my hand and tugging, leading me towards the door. I hope they had a plan, and I hope that they soon shared everything so I won't be left in the dark. Again.
Hopefully
