"We cannot help you if you don't tell us what happened."
"... Don't worry about it so much." Repeating the sentence for the million time, it seems that the assuring smile I gave her did the opposite effect as her face turned red with anger.
"Luna-
"Listen, I will take care of it." Giving her no room to speak, I distracted myself from the distress on her face while adjusting futilely to make myself comfortable on the cold stone floor of my cell.
"Shirayuki, let me have a word with her." With a light assuring kiss on her red hair, Zen's voice immediately calm her as she bury her teary face into his embrace.
"Look, I am sorry for getting his highness into this state-"
"It's not about him now." The warm voice that I always knew turned icy cold as his eyes burning with anger. "Luna, it seems that you still don't understand what is going on, so just shut your trap and listen to me. This morning, you were sentenced to death which will be carried out tomorrow."
"...Shirayuki, can you leave both of us alone?" Without saying anything else, I knew it is finally time as I looked at my red head cousin with a smile. After observing the couple, I understand that the prince standing before me will do a much better role in protecting her even after when i am no longer around.
Zen gave her a subtle reassuring nod and walked his princess to the cell gate; only giving me his full attention after the petite silhouette disappeared out of our sight.
"How much do you know about Shirayuki?" Without wasting time, I threw my question to know his level of understanding before deciding where to start my story.
"She is not willing to say anything about it," His gentle expression disappeared without a trace as seriousness replaced in the blue orbs. "and i love her for who she is regardless of her background."
Nodding with satisfaction, my shoulder suddenly felt lighter as my heart made its decision upon hearing his words.
"Listen very carefully now, I will only tell this once and this must not be known by a third party, which includes Shirayuki and Izana." Setting himself on the cold stone, Zen gave his promise without hesitation. Shock, surprise and fear flashes across the young prince's face as I told him our story from the era that we belonged to, the old sage to my mission.
"... so you are saying that the mastermind behind lord brother's poisoning is the one that you are searching for and is the one who made transport both of you here."
"Its surprising how you can believe me without any doubt." Leaning against the damp wall, Zen buried himself deep in his own thoughts most probably trying to process to the information I just told him. However I cannot deny that my heart felt so much lighter after telling someone our story for the first time.
"Ridiculous it sounds to be but it made sense after thinking about everything that has happened." With a small dimpled smile, Zen took a deep breath and a flash of sadness appeared in his eyes for a moment. "That must be the reason why lord brother always say that no matter how much he tried to reached for you, he felt that there is always a distance between both of you. You love him don't you?"
... sadly yes, I do. I love that stupid prince.
"That is something that I want to tell him directly first." Putting my finger to my lips, the serious atmosphere disappeared momentarily when a sharp voice suddenly echoed through the corridor that lead to my cell.
"And I will make sure that you will disappear before that happens." With a queen's poise, Lady Haki's slender figure appeared in this dirty prison with a sinister glare directing towards me before turning to Zen with a gentle smile. "My... if this is not Prince Zen. You shouldn't lower yourself to meet this murderer. Don't worry too much. As your brother's fiancee, I will make sure that his highness will be save after she spent some time in the dungeon with me."
"Shouldn't it be you giving it up?" Not knowing why this narcissist even bother trying, I shot her a dose of information to wake her up from her daydream. "I was told by that it was you who request the maids to use a special set of utensils brought into the castle by you."
"Wasn't the poison mixed in the food?"
"If it was, i wouldn't be here." With a smirk, I stared at the blond bimbo who turned from confident to confusion with a trace of fear. "Prince Izana fed me some so it was obvious that it was the utensils that were laced with poison instead."
"Don't listen to her lies! Brother told me that it was only a mere sleeping medicine!"
"... Lord Makiri?"
"Yes, he said that I can steal Prince Izana's heart-" Before she can finish her sentence, her body jolted and immediately went limp as a quick shadow appeared behind her. Unsurprisingly, Lord Makiri's face appeared as his sister dropped hard onto the cold stone floor.
"Stupid girl, if you only kept your mouth shut and you will be most powerful lady on the land when I become king." Without a second look, he walked over her and stood before my cell without even sparing an eye to the prince standing beside him. "You have done more than enough damage young lassie, everything could have ended the earlier. You will not need to wait till tomorrow for your punishment, I will give out your punishment personally."
"Take Zen's sword, lass." Speaking with the tone of the king, Makiri gave me a signal to exit the cell as he ignore the real prince standing in his presence.
"Prince Zen, please leave"
"N-"
"NOW!" Without wasting time, I swung the sword towards the lord and pushing him back to give space Zen to run and call for help. My full attention finally turned to the opponent in front of me as I adjusted myself into stance that Izana engrave my mind into.
Two swords clashes within the small space and I could only feel the pressure as the difference in our strength became apparent as Makiri's sword edging towards me. As though a switch flipped in me, I lowered my body and threw a familiar low sweep kick that I have always used in competitions. His blood splattered onto us as the sword pierced through him smoothly and the corpse.
After confirming that the former lord cannot be saved, a thought came to me but it came with distasteful feeling.
Pushing the distaste back to my mind, I held my breathe and forced myself to search the body for any clues of the antidote. Finally after a long dreadful moment, my fingers finally touched a cold smooth surface that seems to belong to a glass around his neck. After freeing the bottle, I quickly open it and a strong whiff of herbs could be smelled. Thankfully even though my knowledge with medicine is low, I know that the herbs in it are commonly found in antidotes and hopeful in this case it is most highly that it is the only thing that can save him.
The thought that it might be Izana's antidote made my knees grew weak after the tedious fight as I leaned agains the cold wall for support while grasping the bottle tightly in my bristled hands.
Everything has finally end... or so I thought....
Author's note
Dear all,
A big thank you for reading this despite the long wait and really sorry if the chapter is written badly.
This chapter seems a little rush but I have been trying to find ways to link the plots together so this ended up being the outcome.
I will be finishing up this story and of course the ending will be depending on my mood when I am writing it hahahaha.
Lots of love,
Lunavoid
