Chapter 1

Finn's POV

Tuesday Morning

Beep Beep Beep Be-

Ughh

I slam down on my alarm clock that reads 7:00 am. Another summer day I have to get up and go to work at Sally's, the small cafe just around the corner from my place.

Not really how I want to spend my summer, but I'm saving up for college.

I slowly roll over to get up and open my bright blue curtains when my little sister runs in yelling.

"Why the fuck is she up so early?" I think in my head. "Finny Finny Finny!!" Starting to give me a headache now.

"What is it Mallory? Why are you up so early?"

"Mommy told me to come wake you up for breakfast"

She has so much energy.

"Tell mommy I'll be there in 10 minutes."

"Ok Finny!"

Mallory shouts as she runs out of my room. I get out of bed and open the curtains to see out my window that it looks like it's going to be a bright and sunny day in Pittsburgh today. I open my closet that's right next to the window and think what to wear.

I decide to go with my high waisted jean shorts, a white tee shirt and a plaid shirt on top. I throw my long blonde hair into a ponytail and walk out of my room.

I walk into the kitchen to find Mallory already eating her pancakes and my mom cradling my new baby brother, Jango with a bottle in his mouth.

"Morning Sweetie."

My mom smiles at me before going back to feeding Jango. "Morning mom." I smile at her while sitting down beside Mallory and grabbing some of the pancakes that are sitting next to us.

"Finny do you have to work today?" Mallory asks me with a sad look on her face. "Unfortunately yes." I say giving her a depressing look showing her how much I don't like having this summer job.

"Finn, you know you need this job, Harvard is way to expensive and ever since your father left us-"

My mom stops remembering how sad Mallory gets when we talk about our dad.

"Wahhhh" Mallory starts crying and runs away to her room.

"Ugh mom I'm sorry I'd help with her but I really have to get going to work."

"It's fine honey, I'll go talk to her and tell her you said bye, have a good day Finn." My mom gives a short smile as she quickly walks to Mallory's room with Jango still in her arms.

I close the door behind me and starting walking to work.

Mallory's 4

Jango's 10 months

And their mom is 34
