"Rosaleen Marie Davis! Where the hell are you taking my daughter?" she yells at me with rage in her eyes. Me being almost in tears yell back and knock some sense of what has been happening throughout these past months.

"Where am I taking her? Is that what you really asked? Have you not been here for the past months? HELLO! That's because you weren't. The only place you've been was passed out on the couch everyday. You know what I'm done with you." I grab Cora and our bags that we packed for at least two days. Giving our mother a chance to redeem herself. Which clearly didn't work.

Cora was 9. Cora was a bright, young, and smart little girl. She looked up to me as a mother more than she did to our mom. I felt the need to fulfill that role instead of her expecting it from someone who would never do it.

I had ordered an uber who to my surprise agreed to drive us to the airport that was a little less than 35 minutes away.

The only reason I had enough money was because I had been planning and saving up money for at least 10 months.

*on the plane*

"Where are we going?" Cora asked snuggling with me in our seats on the plane with her beautiful green eyes starring up at me.

"Somewhere safe where you could be loved and cared for even better than you were before." I smile down at her and she closes her eyes. I kiss the top of her head and play with her beautiful light brown hair. I lay back and close my eyes.

Little did she know that the place she has always dreamed of going to was the place we would be living in.

*5 minutes before arriving*

"We are close to your destination..." Once I heard those words I had woken up to my fullest. I look to my right to see Cora wasn't there. I look down the aisle and get up.

"Cora?" I say looking throw each row of seats. I head to where the bathroom was and knock on the door.

"Cora? You in there?" I say hoping and praying she was.

"Rosaleen?" I hear from the inside. The feeling of happiness just filled my body. The door open and I held her hand back to our seat.

"We're almost here." I say with a big smile because of how excited she would be to be in California.

"Where are we now?" I smile holding her hand even tighter. I point to the outside.

"Take a guess."

"Is it really Ca-"

"California gorgeous!"

We grab our bags and head out. We then head to get our luggage's.

"Woahhhhh! It's so pretty." She says unlocking the door to our room. I look at the inside and without even stepping inside know that I had made the best decision ever. I step in the room knowing that Cora was probably jumping on the bed and instead of me telling her to stop I joined her.

"We should probably stop before they get mad." We make our final jumps causing the last one to fall on our butts. I grab my phone and checked if there were any missed calls or texts from my mom but who am I kidding she didn't even have my number to begin with.

"When do we start school?" Cora asks me without hesitation.

"Are you that excited to go to school?" I ask her while laughing.

"No but,  it would be nice to know to make everyday count."

"We start tomorrow."  I say hoping that smile of her didn't fade.

Cora was one of the most popular girls in her school. She was no mean girl though. She was kind and cared for everyone. So, it would be simple for her to fit in. Me on the other hand, am extremely quiet and don't interact with many. I like keeping to myself you might say.

"We should get some rest then. It's 9:00 p.m." She says heading to the empty bed on the left side of me.

"Go get ready for bed then. Tomorrow's going to be a big day." I say to her.

*The next day*

"ROSALEEN!!" she says shaking me. I wake up scared thinking our mother had found us or even the police.

"What's wrong!!" I say scared and practically yelling.

"It's 7:15 a.m."

"Oh shoot! Get ready Cora! We're gonna be late." We start rushing and bumping into each other while doing this.

Dropping off Cora at school was one hectic ride. The driver of ours couldn't find the school and had to go all the way around. Lucky for me my school started at 8:30.

After 10 minutes of trying to figure out which way lead us to her new school, we finally found it. Cora was ready to get out and give me a kiss on the cheek but, I told her something very important.

"If they say Cora May in roll call or say 'Welcome Cora May' just go with it. It's our undercover last name for now. You understand?" She nods her head. "Ok I love you. Don't move from the school till you see me." She runs to the entrance and she looks back to wave me goodbye.

Now it was my turn.

Entering the school was horrible. I almost fell at the entrance. I walked to the office to get my schedule and hoping that someone would help me.

"Zianna will help you today, Miss Rosaleen." the principle said pointing to the girl sitting outside the office.

"She looks um...nice." I say concerned. She seemed popular and she seemed like one that talks nice about you to her face but to her other friends something different. But, who knows she could be the total opposite. We'll have to wait to find out.
