Fog laced its way through the cornfield. I sat backwards on the dining chair, staring out the window with my arms crossed on the windowsill. The boards on the window made it hard to see much of anything. The only way you could was laying on the sill and looking through the small crack in the bottom board. But the sill was dusty and covered in dirt, so you risked a dirty face just to look at a half dead world with barely breathable air as it is. It didn't help that there wasn't much clean water left, and if there was any at all, my family didn't have it. The government did, along with any non dried food. I slowly stood up and stretched. My legs ached from the literal food run I had to make about 2 hours ago for my family. I ambled to the room we claimed as a bathroom, but it barely sufficed as one. I stared into the mirror. My brown eyes looked as plain as ever and my pale blond hair had a few knots at its ends. I slowly ran my fingers through individual strands, trying my best to untangle the nest that had become my hair. I cringed as pain spread through scalp with me pulling each knot apart. I grabbed a strand towards the back of my head. I slowly pulled the strand in half with force and a small yelp escaped my lips as I cringed. I dropped the no longer tangled strand and slumped against the wall. What was the point of this life? Living in fear everyday, half starving, and constantly dirty? I sighed and thought about the past...and all the events leading up to today. My face slowly began to contort as small tears rolled down my cheeks. I sniffled softly and wiped my eyes with my forearm.
