Game 06: Some Kitchen Laughs

.

.

"Is there anything I can help with?" Kageyama's head popped out from the kitchen doorway.

"N-no it's okay," You're a king anyways, but that went on without being said.

He went back to the couch to copy my notes while I turned back to the chopping board. My heart was pounding against my ears because of all the nervousness and I can't hear myself think.

Moments later...

"KYAHAAAAA!!" I dashed out of the kitchen with teary eyes, ducking behind the couch.

Kageyama stood up, "T-Tsurane-san?!"

That's when we saw black smoke puffing out of the kitchen door.

"What the hell?!" He dashed into the kitchen with me following close behind.

I'm not sure what happened but the frying pan was on fire and something was burning in the oven.

"Wh-what are you making?!" Kageyama asked loudly.

I ducked behind him, covering my nose from the smoke and replying, "S-some baked macaroni and sukiyaki!"

"Why is the fire green?! That's made by some chemical or something!"

"I don't know!"

"What the hell is your oven spilling out?! It's black!"

"I don't know!"

"Is that ketchup?!"

"I don't know!!!"

And then something exploded in the oven, startling us from our arguement, only to be supressed by the machine itself and then the smoke was slowly lifting. Kageyama even took the liberty to get a basinful of water and douse the flaring frying pan.

I collapsed against the wall, shivering in fear and confusion. This never happened before!!

Still, we ended up eating the only edible thing which was the sukiyaki fail- burnt to a slightly crispy black. We ate facing each other and with the TV on and making noises in the background.

"It's not bad," Kageyama commented as he picked up another slice.

"...It's not good either..." I murmured in regret, stabbing a piece of beef with my fork, "This never happened before..."

"Mm..."

I sighed and glanced at the clock. Wow it's 8:30 pm. Is he still supposed to be out here? My curfew is only till 6 cuz I have a game to check into...

"Hey, Kageyama-kun," I said all of a sudden, "I heard you're this King of the Court thing? Is that in volleyball?"

His hand froze on the spot and his eyes hardened. Crap! I hit a sore spot! I shifted back to my food, slightly embarassed, that was until I heard him sigh, "Yeah."

"O-oh...." I wanted to ask more since my curiosity is at its peak right now, but I can't seem to bring out the words.

"Thank you for the food," he clasped his hands and slowly stood up.

I chomped down on the rest of my rice and placed all the dishes at the sink before heading to the door with him. He was already putting on his shoes with his bag filled with my notes.

"Want me to accompany you back?" I asked.

Kageyama looked up, slightly surprised. I was taken back as well, not by his wide-eyes, but by a sudden sound from his throat.

A laugh.

It wasn't forced. It wasn't scary. It was a normal, happy laugh. I found myself recording the soft sound, letting it echo in my ears.

I had heard that Kageyama was someone stoic and unyielding, Hinata said so himself. And he never heard him express his joy other than yells and fist pumps.

And yet he was here, infront of me, genuinely laughing.

I don't know how long my thoughts kept me preoccupied but Kageyama stopped, and I waited for him to straighten himself up.

"...W-what's so funny?" I finally asked.

"Isn't that something a guy would ask?" He retorted, a small smirk forming on his face.

"Wh-what...? It's only natural for friends to ask-" I stopped short when he raised a brow.

"Friends?"

I stepped back a bit, offended by his sudden question, but I kept my air up, "Okay, no. I'm your teacher right now, so I'm worrying for my stupid students,"

Kageyama shrugged, seemingly pleased with himself, "Alright, alright. I'm going."

I sighed inwardly and slowly closed the door, watching him round the corner from the small window beside it. I locked the door and rested my forehead against it.

Crap... For a second there, I thought I had made it on his good side too...
