Everyone stared in shock at America. England couldn't believe it. "No." the Brit said firmly. America nodded slowly. "No," England repeated again, louder this time. "No, no, NO!!!!!!!" he stood up, ran to leave.
"Dad...," America whimpered, and England froze in his tracks.
"It's been a long time since you called me that.." England whispered, then sat down.
"Belorusszia and I will work to find that cure," Hungary said, and Belarus nodded. The two stood.
"Russia, brother, you're on shift all night while we work," Belarus said, her tone sweet and innocent as much as it was icy and commanding. Russia squeaked and crawled over to the hatch, rifle in hand.
"We'll need you, England," Hungary said, "and America."
"Who needs an infected like me?" America croaked.
"Us."

So they were off to the lab. It was crumbled and destroyed, and the halls and rooms were filled with sickening corpses, but the girls didn't seem to notice...or care. Once they entered, Belarus and Hungary pulled masks over their mouths, goggles over their eyes and put on ratty, heavy-duty lumberjack gloves. They threw America and England their protection. "So," Hungary said, "let us show you what we've been working on." She walked over to a lab table, which had been broken clean in half and repaired with duct tape. "We've located and accessed the files and notes that the previous scientists have taken, and Belarus managed to hack other lab facility computers and access their data from around the world. We have the research of scientists and doctors from labs across the globe. We've combined all that information with all the chemicals and antibiotics we can get our hands on to create a makeshift formula for the cure. In other words...we think we've found a cure, but it's still in the beta form and must be tested on an infected. And we know just the American for the job," Hungary said with a grin.

Russia sat at the hatch, his eyes wandering the land out the window in front of him. It'd been a quiet night; no distractions. He almost wanted to fall asleep; but then again...the punishment he'd get from Hungary combined with the things Belarus might do to him in his unconscious state...Russia shuddered, and kept his eyes on the hatch.

America sat, his eyes squeezed shut, gripping England's wrist as Belarus prepared a needle with a yellow liquid that would either kill him or cure him. "If this works, and saves America, then all Americans will be saved and you'll eventually be back to your normal self again. If we can get the drug out to enough remaining pharmacies around the world, and people start taking it and curing themselves, their countries will be okay. For example, if we can get enough German citizens to take our drug, then Germany and Prussia will miraculously return, and so will every German and Prussian citizen. It would be like nothing happened. But...if the cure doesn't work...life as we know it will be completely and officially over. Fingers crossed, no pressure!" Belarus said cheerfully, filling the syringe.
"We don't know what the side effects will be," Hungary said. "We haven't exactly tested it on anyone yet. Keep your chin up, America. Hope this works. And...if you feel pain...don't hesitate to keep your mouth shut." England glared at her, but she just grinned and rolled America's sleeve up.
America was scared. Honestly, terrified. Though he didn't show it, he was overcome with fear. The world was practically already over, but if this drug didn't cure him, all hopes of ever regaining human life would crash and burn. It was all up to him now. Then, he suddenly became his old self again: he looked down at his tummy and whispered, "ok, dudes. Man your battlestations. This is war, and we gotta win, guys. Later, I'll reward you and myself with a Big Mac. No, three Big Macs. No, three dozen Big Macs. Just don't let me down, immune system!"
Belarus approached with the needle. Did America really want to do this? She slid her finger over the plunger. No, he didn't. She gripped America's arm tightly. Yes, he did. She tested the needle, pressing the plunger down a tiny bit. The fate of all mankind depended on this moment. He squeezed his eyes shut tighter, bit his lip, and balled his hands into fists as the needle entered his arm and the antibiotic entered his bloodstream.
Everyone held their breath.

Russia felt a disturbance. Like, the dark, looming cloud that was the plague and world destruction was clearing. Bright, blue sky and shining sun that was normality again were peeking their way through the dark stormcloud of plague. It was weird. The feeling lingered, then flickered out like a spark from a lightbulb. It was gone as soon as it had came, but for a second, a single second, Russia had full hope that everything was going to be okay, and this plague that had rocked the world would be over and life would be normal again. Russia nearly laughed out loud at his silly hopes. There was no stopping this. No way to go back to before it broke out. The end was approaching; and it was coming fast. But the flicker of hope had left an impact. What end? The end of the world, or the end of the plague?
